Location: Rocky River, Ohio | I had one of those a long time ago.
They weren't well received, but I love the neck on this model. A combination of the traditional body, and the late 80's MTV power ballad hair bands (Thunderbolt) flash, it arrived without too much praise.
I personally think the 89 is under rated. You don't see many, and that one looks clean.
the 9116 case that comes with the 89 and the Thunderbolts is even rarer, which had a slight adjustment of the plush inside to hold the neck slightly off-center to allow the 6 in line headstock to fit in the case.
I think I still have the ad for that model, with all the fatory workers posed in the parking lot of the mother ship, all holding an 89 in their hands. Pretty cool.

Personally I hate the headstock, the inlays, the lack of epaulets, the colour, the bridge, the neck finish.
On the plus side, ebony fingerboard, jumbo frets.
It's certainly very 80s :) |
