I emailed Ovation about this, but they were unable to help.

My newly-acquired Magnum Bass has had some rough treatment in its 30-odd years. There are numerous dings, mostly on the neck and the very end of the headstock. Some might call this mojo: I call 'em wounds. :(

I've been considering getting these repaired (possibly somethign that I could do), or even going for a total refin job (in which case I'd hand it over to a pro).

If I'm to do either thing successfully, I need to be sure what kind of varnish/finish was used on these basses in the mid-to-late 1970s. THIS THREAD might seem to answer that question, but I thought I'd double-check. For all I know, they might have used different finishes for acoustic instruments and solid bodies.

Anyone got any idea? Indeed, has anyone out there done any repair/refin work on their own bass? If so, I'd like to hear how you got on! :)

Excellent, Beal - many thanks.
