Hi all,

Any 1996 owners out there..... I have found a Collectors 1996 for sale in pristine condition (so the owner says) with case, light home use only... no dings etc etc.
I know it was a special year 1996 and the guitar is well made.
Sadly there are no reviews on Harmony Central or Google for that matter so I am bit stuck for info.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Regards Alan

Alan,
It’s my favorite collectors series guitar.

Don't know the price, but if I could afford it, I'd buy it if I were you.

I have one, it was discussed on the board in detail when I first "joined up". I like it, esp. the stereo pre-amp. It has a mellow tone (my Elite sounds brighter). It has a soft VEE shaped neck. Mid-depth bowl.

The edges of the fretts on my '96 could have been dressed a little better (they are somewhat on the sharpe side, which tends to be a little uncomfortable). My elite doesn't have this problem, it's neck is "smooth as silk" (it has a even deeper VEE neck than the '96, this deep VEE is the best shape I've ever held).

Recently, I've seen more than one high end Gibson ES-335 with fretts so sharpe that they'd cut you. Since the local music store wanted just under $2k for the gibsons, I felt a little better about my '96 (at least it hasn't drawn blood).

When I bought the '96 it was my first "good" guitar. I didn't even realize that the frett edges where a problem. It wasn't untill I gained more experience (and bought the Elite) that I realized the difference. As long as all I was doing was strumming cords, I never noticed a problem. Now that I've advanced into Blues lead riffs, I find that I'm sliding along the edge of the neck all the time.

All said and done, I'm glad I've got both guitars,
I'd buy the '96 again. I really enjoy running it thru two seperate tube amps and playing with the different stereo effects. I like to keep it tuned in Open D so that I can get that "Swamp Sound".

Good luck,
