Location: Lafayette, Louisiana | Al, on your site you have a couple of guitars that I find interesting. They are 2001 collectors that come in either a round hole, are with the epaulets. Did Ovation offer them both? Are was the round hole version custom made? Very cool guitars, I would just like a little history lesson on them....Paul Hebert |

Location: NJ | The redwood collector's guitar was offered with a center hole or an epaulet. Both have different sounds both are excellent it is basically the choice of the buyer. Personally I feel that if you usually like a center hole guitar you would like that one since that is where you are used to hearing the sound come from. If interested please e mail me privately. |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I made Al sit and A/B the 2001's before I bought mine from him. I liked the way the round hole sounded to my ears playing it, but sitting across from the guitar listening, the epulets version seemed to project better. I guess this gets back to how the roundback and top work together. It seems with the guitar in my lap, I was hearing what was coming out of the sound hole. That's fine, but that big hole in the middle reduces the amount of surface on the top for it to project. Hence the epulets sounded better when I was on the listening end. This may all be speculation, but I made Al pick up several guitars, all 2001 collectors, and A/B them playing the same sort of riffs and chords. (actually I wanted to see how long he would put up with it until I got an el'Kabong over the head. but don't tell him that.) The result was I went with the guitar that sounded best to the listener. Mind you they both sounded great to the player, just a little differnt tones. |
