There are so many people who play better than I do that if I aspired to play like them I would end up being musically schizophrenic. (Some of these really gifted people also frequent this board.) So, my approach right now is to observe how those who are more proficient play, and try to take one achievable thing home with me to work out. If I can add something to what I know, it gives me great satisfaction; but if can't, well, I have finally reached a point where I know my limitations, and can live with them in peace.

Now then, (if I got it right), being "musically schizophrenic", would bother you, but you have No squabbles about committing "Plagiarism"....?!.. :)

I'd like to play just like him, and Sonny Landreth, and Brent Mason and Jeff Golub with a touch of Tony Rice thrown in for good measure.
That should cover it.

Took me some concentrated work since I returned to music to be able to achive the cover work I want to do. And that list is extensive. But I guess I will never be totally satisfied with my skills, it is the quest for more understanding and dexterity and speed that makes it all so much fun for me. The pursuit of a difficult piece is as much fun as the day you play it on stage for me. My originals have progressed into some great little pieces as my knowledge of other great musicians continues and I can add some new dimensions to these little pieces.
With that said;
I'd like to be able to play like Steve Howe. In my mind his style is so stinkin cool and so damned difficult to copy I think I'd be satisfied with my improvement, in this short life, when I figure out how to play like him.

On a good day I sound like me.

On a bad day I sound like a crappy version of me.

Doesn't seem to matter what I do.....

Yesterday Dave the Upright Bass Player & I sounded like a VERY good version of US.
