Why does everybody keep talking about sending stuff to MS. We can`t fix it down here in Mississippi.

Yeah, Dweez. Those little Pentax cameras are the duck's nuts.

I had a Pentax 450, (I think) which went belly up, but replaced under warranty with a 550. Both took excellent photos - as good as my SLR. (probably because I didn't have much say in the result  )

It was an excellent backup camera, but unfortunately I dropped the 550 with the lens extended, which wrecked it. A very good salesman talked me out of a Pentax for a Fujifilm. Never been happy with it.

Dweezil, I posted this same question several months ago in regards to my 1778LX. Same hump behind the bridge. So does the Custom Elite LX

I'm no help on the epi thing. Mine look great.

I checked out my 07 and no dip in the epaulette section that I saw. I have a nice bulge behind the bridge, but not quite as pronounced as yours. Mine was an FRG ... maybe that's what the problem was. ;)

Dweez ... do you have a humidifier? It looks like the dip is mainly in the center where the holes are and that area could be susceptible to showing the results of dry wood more that other places on the top.

Hi, no I don't have a humidifier, the previous owner lived in Hawaii and perhaps that location didn't suit the guitar. Hopefully will get an answer from Kim this week.

Kim said the radius should be there but to keep an eye on it in case it gets worse. Said low humidity can cause it to get worse. Suggested sticking a wet cloth in the guitar for a week to see if the hump reduces.

As for the dip said he had never seen that. Sadly the warnentee is with the original owner so to correct it would mean shipping to MS replacing the entire top and shipping back.

That is not going to happen!!

An update:

Left a wet rag in the body for 10 days didn't seem to make much difference.

Then replaced the strings (think they were 12s with 10s) and been playing it extensively (in fact switching solely between the 5868 Walnut and the 07C of late) and today I've noticed that the bridge hump is greatly reduced (down to 'normal') and the epaulet dip less prominent.

So I'm a happy camper. :)

Now seriously toying with swapping out the VIP for a Op Pro Studio!

You're finally catching on after how many years?

I've always known that the top of the LX models were built with a slight "arch" but now it makes me wonder, are the undersides of the bridges built with that same arch in reverse for a perfect fit?

I always listen to you Al!
If I'm having a rough day all I have to do is call you up ("we never close") and listen to how much your day sucks more than mine!

You have always been there for me, thank you.

Just do it. Sometime this weekend I'll record the VIP vs Studio in my '07C so you can hear the difference.
