Preacher Dan quote:

"Sadly my new 2005 has issues".

This could be complicated. Wood products "can" have issues. I'm going to forward your letter to Dr. Phil and see what he suggests.
How has the guitar been treated? Has it been exposed to other guitars? There are many factors here. I promise, I'll get back to you as soon as I hear something. I know that this must be a difficult time for you.

Dr. Ovation.

Dr. Ovation, I suggest you call in someone with ACOUSTIC experience to consult, your credentials suggest that you are an ELECTRIC specialist.....

I suspect the good doctor is more at home under a bridge. Let's not feed the troll.

I can really unfortunately vouch for the "playing the strings sharp" issue. I always thought I had a light touch, but somewhere along the line I got into a bad habit mostly on barre chords of pressing to hard with my 4th and 5th fingers (pinky and next-to-pinky). This would happen more on a wide neck guitar. It was frustrating to "trouble-shoot" as I would play the parts by myself, and they'd sound fine. The other guitar player would go to add his part and it was like one of us was out of tune. We'd re-check tuning, play the parts on each others guitars etc. etc etc. Luckly he was also an accomplished instructor of 20+ years and caught what I was doing. It was not a fun habit to break.

Hey Rodger

I’m glad it helped. The good news is the problem I had was a fluke. From everything I have read on this site and others the 2005 Collectors is a real winner for Ovation and those of us who have one.

What I would like to know is what happens to a defective Collectors when they go back to Ovation., especially what happens to a particular serial number. Is a new guitar given that number or is the original fixed and reissued as factory reconditioned.

Stephen, with 3 visible spots you can't scrub off, and now no ass, perhaps you'd find the barkeeper more helpful than his friend. :D

You might want to stand at the bar from now on, however...

Thanks Waskel,
It's advice like that, that keeps me coming back to the OFC!

Seriously tho.....If I can't get them off, I guess I will have to send back to the mothership for repair. It definately spoils an otherwise flawless guitar.

I hear ya, Stephen. I'm probably going to exchange my 6778LX. It has some 'interesting' grain patterns when seem close up. However, from 2+ feet away they look disturbingly like finish flaws.
I know they're not, but they bother me every time I see them.

Dan, I bet it is repaired and reissued as an FRG with the same number. IF it can be repaired. Yours might require a different neck.

The saga is over, I think I have a keeper, the third time is a charm. the second one had a ding on the face. This one is pristine. Ill have my guitar guy look at it and do a setup on it next week
