Location: Phoenix AZ | Interesting tid-bit. Jordan Sparks singing the National Anthem was slip synched. This is standard practice for the anthem at superbowls. The network can't risk any technical problem or forgetting the words to the song. It was recorded on Saturday (in the stadium). During the "live" performance they ask the singer to keep the mic to their mouths as much as possible. If you also noticed they pan to a lot of crowd and scenary shots during the anthem. I learned this from one of the techs involved in the staging and in-house audio. Dave |

As for the Superbowl XLII game itself, not bad. And, I'm not much of a football fan. |

I'm fine with having been at Woodstock and having seen Cream and the Beatles live in 1967......
The only real problem is having to use Viagra to play a roundback these days........ (don't think about it too hard).......(oops poor choice of words)

Location: Colorado | It was a long time ago now Stephen - we actually did a combo of live and lip synced stuff back then - the stadium sound went live - the TV stuff came off a 32 track ampex (dating myself here) because the 2 track mixdown didn't sound great going out over the air - so we mixed it live in the truck - and could add effects, "air" and compression just for the TV audience...piped the trax into the monitor system - not the house system..in '82 I played acoustic - in '86 I mixed the stadium sound...Another Tidbit - in '86 Dick Enberg did not want to do the voice-over intro live - so we cut a single track that morning - as we were out of channels on the Ampex, we rolled the two track Cart Machine live under the intro music - and prayed it worked - it did...Tup's correct - in each case - those national anthems were done to tracks - they said they could not risk an error - Wynton Marsalis hated it - Diana Ross loved it. |
