On topic - I have a 1581 Reissue and two Slothead Reissues. Had not yet the chance to play a 08C.

The 1581 is a great guitar with great sound - loud, bassy, but well balanced.

The Slotheads are just a little better.

Why? Obviously it's not the carving and bling. Neither do I think the greater breakangle on the slots does the trick.

I think it's the thinner bracing, a slightly different top, handlaid bowl on the Slotheads.

If the 08C has quite the same specs (handlaid contour bowl, maybe the same bracing and top) - it would probably sound better than the 1581 RI. With that said, better is again this icecream thing.

Kurt

If somebody says now, don't compare a cutaway with a full-bodied guitar - same is said for my 1687.

Point taken Paul: they're not for everone! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I personally like this guitar...I have a 47RI as well and does the 08 sound better than that guitar? To my ear, No, it does not...But, I have not heard any Adamas (except for an original slothead) which aounds better than the 47RI. That said, the 08C is a players guitar with advanced electronic's and it does sound really nice! Hey, whatever floats your boat.

Say Mike, I need a guitar for the clinic and would love to try out your '08 collectors. I have a 1581-5 reissue and really enjoy the bass tone of the single epaulet holes and the cutaway.

ProfBB: Have you noticed that the 1581-5 is a bit thin around middle C and on top strings between frets 5 and 10? I have been trying to record the plugged-in sound. RICH bass but thin on top. Or is it me?

It'll be there! I'm planning to bring the 1687, 1688, and the 08C...I'm hoping to get some info on the 08's VIP from Matt...to my ear, the differences in mic inages are very subtle...I want to find out more about it.
