I used to care about this crap but life is too short. Play what YOU like and don't worry about what anyone else thinks. If you want to play a Martin, great. Takamine, Taylor, Ovation, no problem. Hell, go play a ukulele if you want to! Enjoy whatever you play, that's all.
There's nothing to be gained by trying to prove to the world on some lame chat board that YOU are smarter than everyone else because you play so-and-so brand of guitar. Who freaking cares.
Dave I pretty much echo that
Play what you want.
I would put some stock into the opinion of those who own both. |

Acoustic music seems to bring out more opinions among players than electric style music does...at least in my experiences. I have been playing for about 40 years and rarely if ever had anybody make a negative comment about my Fender Strat or Telecaster or Gibson or whatever when I played a gig or went to a jam session. Go to a Bluegrass Jam and things are a bit different. Lots of folks think only a Dred of some brand will cut the cake there and they have no problem telling you about it. I was in the Marine Corp so you can't hurt my feelings but I sure find it interesting when some guy gets in your face because I brought my Ovation instead of my Martin. It is indeed an interesting world we live in. Personally I like most guitars and really enjoy the sonic differences between brands....that is exactly why I own more than one guitar. I look forward to Winter Grass this year and the jam sessions. it gives me a great opportunity to learn new songs and some new licks and just play my guitar. Thanks everybody for your input....I sincerely appreciate it.

Location: enid, ok | I think Ovation's whole focus from day one was not to emulate, but study and make a better product. I think in most ways they succeeded, and I play electric. I can only imagine the attention to detail on the top acoustics. This is a company that cares about their product and their customers. Sadly, there are few companies that follow this model today. |

| Since I own both brands, and have for the last 30 years or so, i'll put my two cents worth in, too. My first Martin was a D-35, but have owned many since. I still own a HD-28V. I still have my first Ovation, a Sunburst Legend. I still love my Martin, but this old Legend will always be my favorite. I own other Ovations, all older Legend Models, including one Anniversary Model, and they are all great sounding guitars. If I could own only one guitar, I would still be playing an Ovation. Some call them plastic, some call them boat paddles, but I fell in love with them, and have made believers out of more than one Martin player over the years. My Ovations don't sound as good as my Martin. They sound better, in a lot of ways. |
