Location: West Coast, FL | I have several Ovations (Eclipse, VXT, Viper) and plan on making them the focus of my collection. Currently looking at a Thunderbolt, but can find very little information. My biggest question is the top material; what is it made from? Most places say carbon fiber. What are they worth (range is fine). Love the site and plan on spending more time here.

Location: Jet City | Hi Alex. A Thunderbolt has a wood top, not composite. They're fun to look at but really the only collectible ones are the handful that were hand-painted in a reptilian motif.
In regards to playability and performance, mine was OK sonically, but I had an issue with the nut always wanting to pop off. They really needed to add a string in my opinion with that headstock style. I let mine go some time back. I believe it resides in the SF Bay Area now. I see the solid color ones go for $400 and up, the hand-painted ones go for probably triple that.
Here's the snakeskin I had...
