I called ovation support on this and if anyone is still interested, yes you absolutely CAN replace and even interchange the opi-1 preamp with the existing op-20 well in your ck-047 koa celebrity guitar. No need to change out the existing well, the preamps are interchangeable! I switch mine all the time, no problems. I love the op-20 for playing live (I prefer the LEDs) and I swap out the opi-1 for recording. That's why the guys at Ovation designed it that way. Causes NO problems with the existing well in mine at all. So enjoy the versatility,

They shouldn't...

I don't have an OP-20.... But I do have a couple of OP-30's and an OP-40.
These have six contacts.

I also have an iDea preamp... It has eight contacts.
(as do OP-Pro, OP-Pro Studio, and VIP... all of which I have)

If it works for you, go for it....
But would not recommend doing it to anyone.

Hey Arthur, you were right about the contacts, never noticed that before!
But the support came straight from ovation themselves, and they said it wouldn't cause any damage. The tech even verified with someone else there.
So maybe it might if I had the opi-1 can mounted and tried to use the op-20 in it??? That is odd that they didn't mention the number of contacts.
