This is a project that I’ve had in mind for some time. Just won an ebay auction for a suitable donor guitar.

Ovation Celebrity Deluxe CC257 Acoustic Electric Guitar Shallow Bowl Conversion to Dobro/Resonator Acoustic/Electric with Humbucker Pick-up.
Ebay item #220973050174
I own and play a Fouke Aluminum lapsteel and a vintage (1947) Wood Dobro, so I thought it would be a natural to build a resonator guitar from a Multi-sound hole Ovation donor guitar. I plan on building it with a spider bridge and gold resonator cover to match the gold tuners on the CC257. It should be stunning and make a stage worthy compliment to my collection.
Thought having a strictly Ovation lineup would be fun to take to gigs.
I will keep you posted on progress of this project as I go along.
Another Ovation project I’ve been considering is a ½ or ¾ size 6-string to tenor guitar conversion. Again, I would prefer using a Multi-hole Ovation donor guitar, but realize that the AE13 or a Ovation CC012 Trekker Travel 3/4 Size Acoustic Guitar (round-hole) are about the only choices. If you have used one for sale send me a PM. Thanks.

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | I've done it. Twice. Full-size, deepbowl. And, a 3/4-size, cutaway. The only tricky part is seating the cone. The rest is just alignment & preserving the correct geometry.
Well worth the effort.
Best of luck! |
