a few years ago my parents bought me an ovation celebrity deluxe cs257. i was not consulted for my preference in guitars, and i happen to be into heavy metal so i wasnt too thrilled about getting an acoustic. technically its an acoustic-electric but it has no visible pickup (although ovationguitars.com says it has one), no tremolo bar, just a small volume/tone adjustment on the side. i'm wondering if i bought a good amplifier for it, would i be able to put it into "overdrive" (or whatever you call that harsh rumbling noise you get from an electric)and do whatever else a solid-body electric could do, or could i possibly take it somewhere to be modified somehow, or would i be better off getting another guitar? below are the specs, if anyone could tell me exactly what i can do with this thing i would appreciate it. email your response to radioactive_gummybear@hotmail.com

You can never turn an acoustic guitar into a solidbody electric but if you put an overdrive in front of it you can get some cool sounds.
think kurt cobain unplugged when he did man who sold the world. (although that was done on an old martin d 18 e with dearmond pickups)
If it is not what you want use it to learn on and then trade it in for another guitar that more suits your needs. think Hamer.

I would suggest taking it to a music store that has Zoom pedals and plug it in and step through all the effects that are preset, you will probably find something that give you the sound you want. If the built in effects don't do it, you can set up many effects of your own. I say Zoom because I have one. There are other brands but I don't have any experience with them, a good music store can show you all the possibilities. If that works you will have both worlds, heavy metal and acoustic when you need it.
