Location: Pittsburgh PA | I have a question on pre-amps. First of all I read about a DJ-4 pre-amp. I assume that is the type that is "built in" to the guitar as apposed to the newer OP series in which the whole unit can be "popped out" to replace the battery etc. My CC057 has an OP-20 pre-amp with the EQ slides and the built in turner. It is my understanding that since this whole unit is removeable, the pre-amps of the OP series can be interchanged.
I see several different pre-amps on the various Ovation models: an OP-11, OP-24, an OP-24+, an OP-24+C, an OP-30 as well as my OP-20.
What is the difference in these pre-amps? Is one better than another? Are some more powerful? Would I notice a difference if I upgraded my OP-20 to say an OP-30?

This is the UK distributors site & shows most of the current preamps.
As far as I can tell the difference between the 20 & 30 is that the 30 has a mid-shift, which gives the option of one of 2 mid frequencies. The OP40 adds a feedback notch. The OP50 has a 4-band eq plus the notch and is phantom-powerable via it's lo-Z out.
