Location: Fla | I'm confused. I bought my guitar new in Aug 1989. The registration form that came with it says it is the Ultra series. Inside is a sticker that says:
OVATION
398011
Also there is a sticker that lists the Model No as 4861.
When I looked on ovationguitars.com under the 4 digit code it says the first number is always 1. Under the 6 digit code there is a gap between 1989 and 1990 that excludes my number. Under the Adamas code the 4 digit model number shows the year 1989.
It is a shallow bowl cutaway with abalone(?)trim around the sound hole. It has no other marks to distinguish "model" or "made in USA" etc. I saw somewhere that the first digit 4 means Pacific Rim. Is this a Korean guitar? Any ideas?

Thanks for the reply. You have a really nice BB here. The people are amazingly helpful and knowledgable. What exactly does it mean if I have a Korean Ovation? Are they manufactured by someone else and sold by Ovation or are they more like the Fender Mexican series...cheaper labor & materials but still basically a Fender? Does Ovation still make some models in Korea? Thanks again. |
