Location: Central Oregon | I'm back from Kodiak. Other than having to go 8 days with no guitar it was a perfect trip. I caught a 350#+ halibut, my wife caught a bunch of smaller ones, & we both caught salmon after salmon after salmon in the Buskin River.
My old high school buddy flew us out to a remote bay in his Widgeon twin engine flying-boat with a bear guide & we watched bears catch salmon & watch us back from 15-20' away for two hours. Got some GREAT pictures, no telephoto lens needed! Quite exciting being that close to wild bears that size. At one point there were 14 bears all around us. Our bear guide "Jo" was a woman about 5'5". No gun, just a can of pepper spray. She knew those bears very well. She told us to stay very close together & not to run, no matter what, cuz the bears like to play tag. Bear taggin' bear is fun to watch, bear taggin' old gimpy guitar player could have been fatal. They were interested in catching fish & didn't pay a lot of attention to us for the most part. One young boar about 3 years old stuck his face up over the bank about ten feet away (right into my camera!) to check us out, & Jo stood up & waved her arms. He just turned around & went back to fishing.
When we got home my nephew we left in charge had the house looking fine & the critturs were all ok so I took him back over to the music store & bought him a digital tuner to take home with him. I also replaced his strings with some new D'Addario .010's. It's a lot easier to play & the tuner may keep his dad from killing me. Apparently he's been playing that old Stella waayy out of tune. He now has the means to keep his new guitar I bought him in tune back home.
While we were there at the store I picked up a Shubb capo like most of you reccomended. Steven didn't have one in stock for a 12 string the last time I was there buying the house-sitter his guitar, but he said he'd order some. Sure enough, there they were. I like it. I had a capo 40 years ago but I didn't use it much, this design is worlds better & actually fun to play with.
Now I have to go catch up on all the threads I missed while I was gone.....

What a great post, my daughter was married to an Alaskan, now divorced, and she visited there at least once. Sounds like you had a great adventure in the only state that is still almost totally wild.
I also noticed that you didn't escape your Ovationist leanings, even in the face of Grizzlys, or was it Polars?
Great post
