Does anyone know either where I could get an older preamp that will fit or if any of the newer preamps would work?
Coincidentally, I had asked Ovation about replacing the original OP24 in my '89 Elite. They quoted the following prices:
Optima: $375 installed, $280 do-it-myself
OP24+c: $245 installed, $150 do-it-myself
The guy I talked to (John, I believe) said that upgrading would involve some hole drilling for the Optima, most importantly the XLR hole next to the 1/4" jack. The OP24+c would require some holes, too, if I recall correctly, but not an XLR jack. Of concern, with regards to the Optima, was the bracing. Apparently, the bracing was modified for clearance with the Optima, so some brace shaving may be required. They'd have to have it for a week or so to do the upgrade.
Don't know that I'll change mine out, but if I did, I think I'd just send it in. YMMV. |
