Those are very nice looking guitars Nils... Your Elite is beautiful. I got the sunburst instead of the Cherry to match my 6 string Elite, but I sure like the looks of yours! I guess you just cant go wrong which ever you pick, Eh?
They do play great, don't they?

Paul, the 175 was introduced in '49, a second pickup was added in '53, so you're right it's an early example, and a very tasty one too. Gibson serial numbers are well documented, so pinpointing the year is pretty easy

Thanks guys, I'm glad you like 'em :)
I've checked on the Gibson website. The serial number is A-13266, which makes it an early 1953 model. That jives up with the fact that is has the single P-90. There are a few tiny chips on the edges of the headstock & one small scratch on the back of the headstock. It's outboard of the nut where my hand never goes so it's not anything that you can feel when you play it. It has a very fine crazing in the finish as you might expect on a guitar this old. You have to look very close to see it, especially with a fresh coat of wax on it. No buckle marks or anything of that sort. Other than that it is pretty much pristine. I like it a lot :)
I used to take it with me to elk camp to play around the campfire before I found out it was worth *considerably* more than I paid for it.
The case looks like it's been through a few wars but it protected the guitar just fine.
The first time I saw it my wife's cousin had brought it over for me to play at a "family thing". When I saw the case I thought, "Well, at least I'll have something to play besides my old Gibson Kalamazoo flat top box". When he opened the case I could hardly believe what was inside!
Btw, the Kalamazoo was my first guitar. It was made around 1938 as near as I can figure. I've still got it. My dad bought it for me when I was learning to play back around 1957. He bought it at a hock shop in Frisco for $40. I'll post a picture if anyone is interested in seeing it.
I'm off for the weekend to ride around with the bikers, be back Sunday sometime....

Have a good weekend!

Nils
