I seem to find my solace between "forgetfulness" and "forgiveness" in my dictshunairy. I spell as I see fit, and I welcome the irritation of those who pick of the nit.

No spelling professor ever fought for freedom of expression and no soldier ever spelled "pull the trigger" before he did it and saved the professor's ass from being beheaded by Osama's friends. The professor thinking he was Osama's friend right up until his head was sawed off slowly.

I prefer the quick reaction on the trigger to the sawing off of my head.

Apropos of nothing, and not getting into the speling (sic) debacle, but when I was in Vegas, I saw a sign painted on the side of a multi-story, block long building. And it said, 'Fcuk the vote'. Then I saw all these people walking around with shirts that said, 'Fcuk you' and similar phrases. I was mildly amused at first, but then I wondered if the person who came up with such a clever misspelling was rolling in the duogh.

I'm already in trouble with Al, but I just have to tell this story as it happened yesterday Nov 4.

I live a few doors down from the railroad tracks that used to be the Santa Fe and it isn't unusual for Spanish speaking job seekers to show up and ask for work for food.

Yesterday this tall gaunt fellow accompanied by a rotund hispanic swung off the train and headed straight for my door. They were dressed better than most and even had on ties and somewhat wrinkled suits. My first impression was a modern day Don Quiyote and Sancha without the donkey.

I greeted them with fractured spanish, "?tu tienes hambre?", and they answered in perfect and sonorous english, "No, we want your vote in this election." and handed me some really scruffy fliers.

I said, "The election was 2 days ago!". They showed an expression of alarm an maybe fear, so, in sympathy, I asked "Don't you have a calender watch or a computer or even a wall calender?" and the tall, gaunt fellow said, again in sonorous tones from apparently much use of the term, "That technology of keeping time is UNSAFE AT ANY SPEED!".

I had a moment of revelation, as did they, and gave them a political donation big enough to let them buy a sandwich and some pop before they jumped the train to go to where ever it was that they were going to give their usual speech accusing 99 percent of the country of voting for poor technology, and vowing an even tougher fight in 2008 now that they had the major parties on their knees.
