The best I can say is that it's like McDonalds vs. Burger King. One one hand they do taste kind of good. But on the other hand you'd be better off eating someplace else if you had a bit more money.
Personal opinion I'd give the nod to Applause. They are a little more unique, share more history with the USA models, and don't pretend to be something they are not. And some of them have cool pickguards. The only side by side comparison was when I owned Applause mando and Celeb mando at the same time and the Applause was a better instrument in my opinion.

It's really amazing to learn what is actually behind the fast food industry in the US and how it has decimated the independent cattle ranchers, potato growers, and produce suppliers. For example, to be a frozen french fry supplier to McD, you have to process the raw potatoes using specific equipment that has to be leased from (guess who?) McD. If you want to open a franchise, you need to lease the property and building from (you got it) McD. McD makes far more money in real estate than they do selling food. The average McD francise "owner" in the US works 88 hours per week and averages $32k gross. Think about that next time you pull up to the drive window in the rover and ponytail getting happy meals for the 2.2 children on their way home from xavier prep academy. Dave

It's all about Ray Kroc & the development of MickeyD's . . .
I usually refer to them as McToilet, as the only time I'm EVER in one is when I'm on a long RoadTrip & have to "bleed my brakes" . . .
I prefer MacaroniGrille over O.G. . . .
. . . for a "chain", they at least have a decent "Guinee Red".

On my "to-do" list for 2008 is to take one of those paper tablecloths to the local art school and commission one of the students to paint an amazing watercolor scene. Then go to MaciGrille and roll it out on the table in the timespan between when the waiter takes our drink order and returns with the drinks. Leave an open set of paints on the table and be cleaning my brush in the water glass like I just got done painting the damn thing. I love to screw with peoples minds. Dave

Location: 6 String Ranch | Yes, MacaroniGrill is the best of all mentioned. I haven't eaten at a McD in 25+ years. Wendy's and the King are OK but a subway is still better.
And I'll take Chowder Ted's or T-Ray's over all of them anyday. |

Location: big island | the franchise idea only works because people expect a certain and the same taste at each outlet. mcD's had to control everything for consistency. theirs is the franchise model. i despise their food but it is more consistent than the cleanliness of their bathrooms. |

How in the world did you end up with comparing QSRs (McD, Burger King, etc.) when the subject was Applause versus Celebrity! And then move on to sanitary conditions in the QSRs! Just Amazin'! Only thing missing was Moody saying "Bite Me!" :D

I've had good food at Macigrill. Wait ... what's this topic about ...? Oh yeah, you don't have to worry in the bathroom, unless you get the hand signals and the wide stance from your neighbor. That means he owns a taylor. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | McD's was the best food I found in England. I know the owners of the local franchises and they do much better than the supposed average. Each of their kids gets a new car every year that is worth more than the average.
As far as the bathrooms, Larry Craig is ours, dammit, quit trying to steal his now famous phrase. He was recently elected the naughtiest person of 2007, even over Brittany Spears. We couldn't buy name recognition like that. |

Location: Reno, NV | Funny enough, I just played my old Applause AA14 with the aluminum neck and razor blade frets as you mentioned. I was surprise how bad the frets were. truly just bad. slides are a big no-no with that guitar. |
