Location: La Quinta, Ca. | Resonator and archtop guitars are designed to cut through, it not so much a matter of pure volume is it is the range and frequency they are designed to project. For instance in recording, my Weissenborn is a lot hotter than my Dobro, yet in the real world you can hear the Dobro a block away whereas the Weissenborn has long since faded.
I've always sort of put deep bowl Ovations in a Martin 00 or 000 range acoustically but brighter and louder. Less full than a dread or jumbo but punchier, and all the better if there's ambient noise. |
