Location: NJ | On old Victorian houses with big porches, they used to paint the porch's ceiling a light shade of blue (like "sky blue"). It somewhat softens the expanse of the ceiling over your head, and adds to the open, "airy-ness" feeling of the porch. Some even went as far as painting the ceilings like an overhead sky (with clouds) . . . .
The first house that my ex and I owned was Post-Victorian, American Four-Square built in 1909. Had a 20x60 porch across the whole front with a gazebo built on one end. Painted the "sky" on the ceiling, and it really DID give it an open, "airy" feeling . . .
DAMN!! I miss that house! |
