A freind of mine found a pic of Denny Laine of Wings playing a slot head adamas(maybe mine) in a March 1997 magazine. The picture is small and in black and white.Does anyone know if they would be able to find the original color photo in some type of archives?Anyone ever had to do that or requested a pic from them before..
The article also mentions that Denny had a small music shop in England .I bought this guitar from england. It came from a small music shop according to the previous owner. He lives in Cornwall ,Falmouth..I have downloaded the pic in my gallery if anyone wants to see it..Hopefully i can get a color copy from Vintage Guitar

Sam, I've seen that pic a bunch of times, but never in color. I think your guitar may have come from the estate of the other Wings guitarist, the late Jimmy McCulloch. The guitar I saw in London many years ago, which we think you now own, was labelled as "Ex-Jimmy McCulloch" They wanted £800-ish. I still haven't forgiven myself for not buying it. Didn't "The List" state that Wings got 2 slots?

Paul, thats the reason i want to track down a color photo.Wings got two slotheads. One Brown finish and the other was blue..a color photo would solve the mystery..I assume the one you saw was blue? BTW, thanks for leaving it alone. How much is 800ish in Dollars?

I don't know if this will help or not, but try
strawberryfieldsnyc.com.album/dennylaine.jpg
it is a color picture taken in nyc in 1997
also try this
laurencejuber.com/pictures/wings2.jpg

I have searched too much, I can't even remember if bothof these are slotheads, but I thing so.

Sam, the recent "Wingspan" DVD has two pictures in the photo section (colour) of Denny Laine playing a beige slothead.

Elsewhere in the DVD it can be spotted on a guitar stand during the 79' UK tour and being played (along with Laurence Juber strumming a blue one) on a short clip of the "Love Awake" video.

That blue Adamas is also featured heavily in the Wings "Goodnight Tonight" video (not on the DVD).

Hope this helps.

Richardd, that is some great info,Thanks.I'll have to get the DVD but not sure where to find the video..Also, i wonder how many other videos or album sleeves the blue Adamas(and brown)were pictured in.How many albums did wings have during the late 70's-80's.Anyone know ?Also how many vidoes might have been made during this time...

I have all the Wings albums and I can't recall seeing any Adamas guitars.

I don't know when the group recieved the guitars but I only remember seeing them used during the final Wings line up in the late 70's / "Back To The Egg" was the album. (Wings split in 1980).

That "Goodnight Tonight" video was from that period.

I have an old video of clips, I'll try and find it and see if anything else shows up.

The two guitars were both shipped in dec. of 1976..So, i would say anything between jan.1977- 1980...Richardd, anything you can find with the blue adamas would be great .It would give me somthing to go on..Basically i want some type of 8x10 color pic to hang near the guitar in my music room..Thanks again

Sam, it was indeed blue. £800 is currently around $1400, but back then the pound was a lot stronger. A new Adamas one in the early 80's was about £1000

Paul, i wonder how close the store you saw it in is to Cornwall Falmouth ? It would be interesing to know the path the guitar took.I suspect the Brown slothead # 51 is somewhere in England as well..What amazes me is that #57 was very well takin care of.For a guitar that was played on tours,it is suprizing clean.I would give the guitar a 9+ out of 10..

Sam, the store was in Denmark St, London. It's still there. Denmark St. is the instrument centre of London & such people from all of the country go there, so it's possible it was bought there and resold. The guitar was pristine when I saw it.

Samova,

did you try a 'Wings' search on CDNOW or the like?

I use this a lot to find out how many albums an artist has made. Maybe you'll miss some obscure imports, but you may find the biggest part there. Also, if there are any videos, i bet they'll have them (Amazon/CDNOW have an ebay like service for 2nd hand videos and dvd's now, including feedback).

Goodluck

You also might wanna search a Macca/Wings "Fan Club" or Message Board.

. . . would you believe that there are people who actually spend time on such things!?

Cliff, Martin thanks for the good leads..I will try them.

Richardd, i bought the DVD "Wingspan" today and watched it..The blue adamas is on two pics and a short video clip with the two "Wings" guitarists each playing a slothead..The brown #51 and blue #57...It was well worth $22.00 to see the blue adamas in the hands of Wings..
Does anyone know if its possible to transfer the still pic on the DVD to a 8x10 pic?

Sam, most PC DVD players have a "frame capture" facility which you can save in several picture formats & print. Incidentally, there's a book which goes with the "wingspan" DVD and in it Denny Laine can be seen playing a Slothead, but it's in shilouette & side-on, so no fucking help at all & I can't believe I bothered to type that in the first place.

Sam;

If by any chance you get "stuck", if you wanna send me the disk, I'll return it to you with however many prints you might want. I can even laminate 'em for you if you want.

Over the weekend I'll try and find the video I have of "Goodnight Tonight", that blue Adamas is all over it and it looks really good. I'd be happy to send you a copy.

Cliff, i think i figured out how to turn the still pics on the DVD into a 8x10 glossy. Thanks for the offer though..I also contacted Vintage guitar magazine and they had the original guy who owned the pic call me within one hour of me calling them. The lady who answered the phone knew the guy and was going to call him anyway for something else."Im impressed"..As it turns out this guy "Bruce Hastell" who wrote part of the article and owns the pic(see it in the gallery)has the original color 8x10 photo..The only thing is he has it on his wall and has had it autographed by everyone in the pic exept Linda McCartney. She was not in good health at the time..So, he said he would either sell me the Autographed original or he would make me a couple of copies for around $40..I told him that i was not really interested in the autographs so much as i was of the pic of the guitar..So, he is going to make me a color copy...He also went on to say that he knows McCarney very well and tried to get the Wings reunion tour together back a couple of years ago. That never happened. He said he also knows Nancy Wilson and visits here home in Seattle. He had bought a few of her guitars but not the slot head adamas.I asked him to check and see if she still has the slothead adamas(he said he would). He said he believes she still has it because she has a huge collection of guitars and does not part with them easily. He also mentioned he played in Badfinger, a later version of that band .He promoted Denny Laine here in the states and helped him get his Green card.He said Denny sold off every guitar he owned exept a beat up Gigson SG.He gave him a cheap electric guitar to borrow and an ovation celebrity so he can have something to play. So, a lot of stuff from this man..Bottom line ,he is well connected..
