Location: South of most, North of few | to medium strings. I just put 13's on two guitars, and really like them. I can hear Cliff now, "bout time, wussie" but for a guy who started with 10's, it's been a long road. :D |

Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | Most times 13s sound much fuller and aren't that much of a difference to play. Bending can be a bit trickier.
I have all of my smaller Collings with 12s and all my Adamas and Dreads with 13s.
The only ones I notice are the baritones (which I think are 14 or 15s) and even they aren't that bad due to the looser tension.

I agree with Moody in that the SlotHead seems to "work" with Lights.

Location: South of most, North of few | I've still got lights on the two reissues I have, (Balladeer and JW) but put the mediums on the Tacoma and the CEO-5. What a difference on the Martin. I didn't think it could sound any better, but it does. I added a shim and adjusted the neck a little on the Takoma Koa and tuned it down to D. It really sings now. |

TOP 2 (medium): 13 17
BOTTOM 4 (lighter): 24 32 42 53
The KILLER for me personally is a G string any HEAVIER than 24: simply death.
I love the sound of heavy bass strings, just hard to negotiate, especially in the higher frets... |

Mine likes 12's (Elixir Med.Lt's Nano), but next change I'm gonna go w/Med. 13's.
For the record, w/ only 87 Worldwide (and nearly 10% of those in Thailand w/Povation, :cool: ), the chances of anyone nearby with one is slim to none....so shame?...ABSOLUTELY NOT! ;) |

Location: Utah | Mediums beat up my fingertips and joints too much, so I went back to lights. But some brands advertise as low tension, like White Bronze and DR Rare, so I may try those in medium one of these days.
Custom lights work as a good compromise, light on the high 3 strings, medium on the low 3. |

Location: South of most, North of few | I used Elixir nanos. The last set I had on it (.012's) lasted almost a year and still sounded great. I know a lot of guys here don't like the Elixir's but I really like their tone. |

If it concerns me, then I'll change out a set just before an important gig, but thereafter, I forget about it. I've been thinking of keeping a log of string changes. Maybe that would be a good New Year resolution. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Iffy sent me a spreadsheet last time I discussed this, but I never did anything with it. As usual, I can't remember which guitar I changed last. It was easier when I was buying a guitar every couple months.
Rather than put it on computer, I was thinking I'd just start a log down in the basement near the guitars. I don't use cases much, so the sleeve in the case thing wouldn't work too well. |
