I have that accessory and as goofy as it sounds, it really DOES work. You can laugh and joke about it all you want but this guy is on to something ...

By the way, the photos make it look like it is black metal. It's not. It's high impact plastic. Very stiff but not brittle. Actually it's lind of like the same plastic the ovation bowls are made out of!

I've only tried it on one guitar. It went on my FD14 and it's been on there ever since. I really do like it. It accomplishes the same benfit as the contour bowl.

One issue about leaving it on the guitar full time is that the guitar will not fit in the Ovation case. That's not a problem with my FD14 because I keep it in a nice Gieb case.

The other thread was much more interesting. It was working its way to a Sienfeld episode.

Dave, you know that I respect you and value your friendship, but do me a favour here, and go F*$k yourself. If you need this ridiculous POS in order to play your Ovation then don't bother buying an Ovation in the first place. Buying one of these is like is like owning a boat and complaining that you don't like water.

I, always, have played my gits sittin' down. Recently, due to pressure ta sing 'bout tha wind in Amelia Isle, I have tried to play with a strap, standin' up. WEIRD Position!

I immediateky thought about this product....a little different, but I bet very effective. JMHO.

I just had an aha moment. I was checking out the no-smile/smile shots from the ad. I've never had a problem with a rolling O, and I normally play standing up with a strap, and moving around a lot. But I also don't put much pressure at all on the guitar with my right forearm ... I pretty much keep my right arm off the guitar when I play. And that's when the picture hit me and I finally understand why some people have a problem with it. If you play (regardless if you're standing up or sitting down) with a heavy right arm on an Ovation, it'll naturally want to roll on you ... simple physics. That's why the contour bowl and this standing ovation device work for people who roll their O's ... it's just compensating for the pressure at the perfect rotational point of the guitar. So my advice is get your arm off the guitar -- besides, you're killing the top vibration.

I know we've been over this a few times over the years but I take advantage of the roll. It allows me to take a peek at my left had without that neck bending "new guitar player" position.

I suffer from a condition called thoracic outlet syndrome, where my arms and hands go numb and ache when I have to hold them up for any length of time. This makes guitar playing a very challenging experience, but I love to play so much that I just try to deal with pain management(drugs). (kinda' like my fisherman friend who suffers from sea sickness)It seems to be getting worse over time. So this kind of thing appeals to me.

The seller is working on a new product in addition to this "Standing Ovation". It's called "Rolling Taylor". Basically it's the inverse to the Standing Ovation. A convex plastic cover that goes on the back of your Taylor (or other fine wooden piece of furnature) and makes it feel just like your holding an Ovation! Now your Taylor can point to the heavens ...

Dave

PS - Paul, you know that I don't need this product. I have no problem holding and playing (sort of) any guitar. Rounded back or not. I bought this because I was cusious what the helol it really does/ Bobbo is right, there are people who clutch the guitar tightly under their arm and the damn roundback responds by rolling over and looking at them. Leads to a lot of extra stress on your left wrist (shut up cliff). For those people, this product improves the situation significantly. This product fixes a problem with the PLAYERS, not the guitars. But if it makes people enjoy their guitars more, play them more, relieve stress pain, etc. than how is that a bad thing?

Heavy right arm? Lose weight? Wife complains that I am too skinny now, especially since I lost 30 pounds after starting to drive a big truck. Mom complains about being able to see my ribs!

Hey, I don't get on here very often as I am gone for a month at a time on the road. Having a trailer breakdown and getting it fixed at one of our operating centers in Indianapolis today gave me time to sit here and play on the computer for a while. It will also give the weather between here and Mass a chance to clear up some more before I head into the northeast. :)
