Location: England | Hi,
I've been trying to find out what strings Ovation use on the VXT, but so far I can't.
I know Ovation use D'addario EXP16's or Adamas 1818 on their acoustics, but no mention of whats on the VXT.
Anyone know??

Location: Scotland | The VXT is an electric guitar first and foremost. You need to use nickel electric strings, probably a 0.010 or 0.09 gauge. The magnetic pickups on the VXT are not compatible with phosphor bronze acoustic guitar strings. |

Thanks Paul Templeman, I realise that acoustic strings would be no good as the VXT is and electric guitar (didn't know the phosphor bronze pickup thing though).
So D'Addario EXL110 would be good then? And with Ovation using D'addario's on there acoustic guitars is probably be what they use!

Location: Scotland | Bronze is a non-ferrous metal, therefore will not react to the magnetic field of the Seymour Duncans. EXL110 will be fine. By the way, where did you find your VXT? I noticed Mairants are clearing out Ovations, including VXT's at some pretty keen prices. |

Location: England | I've not got a VXT yet, going to Mairants on Thursday to buy one hopefully.
Their prices are pretty good for the VXT as you say.
I wanted to know what strings, as I dont think they'll give me any money off the guitar, but might chuck in a couple of sets of strings.
They've only got a few left, but they have got Black and Sunburst, still not decided which one to go for. I'm hoping that when I see them next to each other the choice will be easy.

Location: England | Yeah your right it is a massive discount from the list price, there not the only company, Dolphin music and Imuso are selling for around the same price. Seems strange there going so cheap from so many sources?

Location: Scotland | I tried DR coated strings (peacock blue) on my 1581. They looked great and sounded terrible. Can't see that their coated nickel strings would sound any better. |

Location: Tennessee | The Zebras are not coated. They are designed with two alternating windings .. nickel and phosphor bronze. They are designed for electric/acoustic guitars so that you can get decent sound out of both piezo and magnetic pickups on the same guitar. |

Location: England | Picked my VXT up today, had a quick play in the shop (did buy set of strings as well.
After reading the little manualand talking to the chap in the shop I'm still a confused!
How do you know which is the tip feed/ring feed on the stereo Y cable?
I know I can jack into a normal electric amp with a mono jack and blend the acoustic modelling, can I jack into my AER acoustic amp with a mono jack and just have the knob full on acoustic only?
Very pleased with it, it's great hooked upto two amps, I need a decent electric amp now!!

Location: Phoenix | Tip is electric, ring is acoustic. The stereo Y cable should be labelled tip/ring. If not labelled, set the switch on the guitar to stereo, turn the Blend knob all the way to acoustic (counterclockwise), and plug one of th estereo cable ends into an amp... if you hear sound, that plug is the ring. If you don't hear anything, plug the other plug in, you should hear sound meaning THAT plug is the ring....
If you set the switch on the guitar to mono, you could plug into a mono amp with a regular guitar cord, and of course you could dial all the way to pure acoustic. |
