I just secured this prize:
Mis-labeled Folklore

I hope it exceeds my expectations but there is always the "ebay" factor!

I have Kurt's FD 14 at home now so there's a chance I'll be ruined for normal necks soon!

I scored my 1614 off ebay because the guy didn't know what he had and was told that it should have nylon strings. He tried and it sounded crappy, so he never even put all the strings on. It had a cracked brace and dirty electronics that are now fixed. It is in almost perfect condition and is probably my best bargain at a little over $300. Compare yours to the FD14 and see what you think. I might prefer the crisp sound of the 1114 or 1614.

Dough!

Kut be Kurt Roddy, MrGolf007 (licensed to play). He's recovering from shoulder surgery and hasn't worked up to deep bowls yet. He was nice enough to let me drool, er adore it for a while.

Paul,
No more than three periods per elipses please...

We'll see what the reality is but I can deal with a few character flaws here and there.

How do you know he wasn't concatenating three ellipses

He is, after all, our grammar cop isn't he?

I've exceeded my quota for picking on Paul for the day.

Chat - Be proud of me. I now own one of those professional looking 100W soldering guns and have learned how to make short, hot, tiny little gobs of splatter, er... solder!

Just remember the cardinal rule:

"The bigger the gob, the better the job"

Hey, MWoody, you got a license for that thing? Or are you packing a 'heater' illegally?

It's like the one y'use on inexperienced boaters:

Your dad repeats himself. That's 4 times now you've cut it and it's still too short.

"And now, for something completely different."

MPFC

Update on the Folklore. It has a lot of character but should provide some solid playing when it makes it through rehab.

The headstock was broken before and the tuners were coming apart. Multiple finish cracks but the top is sound. Reglue and sand smoove, reinstall tuners and bring it up to tension using steel strings (it came with a mix of nylon and stell wound).

I posted in the Gallery. There's some pickguard photos in there also for Preachers and Vipers.

Enjoy.

Is there wide neck GAS?

NO

Ah, the width of thy neck doth breathe new hope into mine fingers!

I got the new tuners mounted and strung the 1114-4 with my last set of Adamas 1818s last night. I'll play with the action later but for now I'll just see if anything explodes.

The slothead had suffered a near fatal break at some time which I got to re-repair using epoxy.

The small diameter tuners had been swapped for a set of classicals (wider "barrel") and someone had drilled out the inner diameters to receive it. I scavenged parts from the bad tuners (with three different types of knobs) and all is secure.

Noted is a small gap under the bridge that leads me to believe it has been reglued as well.

I brought it up to pitch last night and it sounds full and bright! If it doesn't implode, it should be a great addition to the gathering.

She will never look pretty but she is wonderful to hold and hear!
