As far as more M's than O's? Not even close and never will be. Hell, I've only got half as many M's as I have ukuleles!
I'm really curious about this guitar and bought it having never even played one like it. The mixing of woods (spruce top, koa back/sides) might be nice. Or maybe not. I'm somewhat intrigued what Taylor is doing now mixing wood types. Who knows, this Martin could really suck. But the price was not so bad that I think it was worth a shot.

Location: Scotland | Dave, Koa/spruce is a better prospect than all-koa. With the exception of Weissenborn I'm not a fan of all koa guitars, spruce is a much better top material. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Update: I got the guitar yesterday. I'll post pics soon. First impression, EXCRUCIATINGLY NICE! It's 10+ condition and beautiful in every way. 12 fret slot wideneck candy - ohh la la. Setup is perfect. Sound? Oh my, very nice. I had no idea what koa back/sides would do so this was a pure gamble. Sound is somewhat brighter than a similar rosewood backed guitar. Hard to compare, could be the strings. Very even tempered across the fretboard and up/down the neck. Just very well balanced overall. I'll post more when I get some more time with it. Dave |

I played a Memorial yesterday with a couple of guys that brought their Taylors. They started talking about 600 series and 500 series. I'm like, huh?
I told them about my 1537 and D778. They are like, huh?
I may one day learn to speak "OO" and other Martin lingo. I do like the looks of all that wood.

I actually used to own one like it except with mahogany back and sides,it was a great sounding guitar.Even had a beautiful burst.Should have never sold it.I think ive said that about half my guitars..
And for the record i have never played a martin that sucked,maybe it was not great but never just really bad..Now i have played some "dog" Ovations thru the years.I guess it was bad lyrachord or something. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I'm not sure they are Schallers. They LOOK like it, but they have Martin logo. So they could be some kind of knock-off. They work great, but I'll be replacing them with open gear Weaverly's as soon I make sure the holes cover. Dave |

Location: UK - Canterbury Kent | My Martin D28 with factory fitted Eclipse p/u gets used and giged far more than my 1778LX-BCB.
Why, because it doesn't chew my fingers to bits after three 45 minutes sets. However, I still like the Ovation, but just don't play it for weeks on end. Shame on me. It probaly needs a full set up.
The Koa Matin is a wonderful looking guitar.

Location: Atlanta,Ga. | Dave ,be careful because i was going to do the open gear tuners(waverly's)in place of the factory schallers but something does not line up.I think the holes drilled for the schallers are too big if i remember correctly..Let me know how it turnd out. |

I bid $1800. max and a few days into the auction I called the seller and asked if he would do a buy it now for $1800. and he said no. When I saw nobody else bidding on it I got worried thinking there was something really sour about this guitar that everyone knew about except me. There's another one for sale someplace on the net (not ebay, I forget where) for $1799. Definately well worth that amount. And yes, for what I paid I did sort of steal it. Came in the beautiful green lined TKL Martin case with virgin paperwork and 3 packs of new strings. For sure one of my better pickups. Dave
PS - Btw, on the neck block it does not have any model number. Just like my modified Norman Blake, it just says "Custom". Can't find any reference to the model number on the M site either. Kind of cool. |

Location: Atlanta,Ga. | Dave,your guitar is based on the 16 series model.Its basically a 000-16SGT that they offered a couple of years ago in the line.Great value for the money.I remember Martin guys complaining about why they dropped that model.Yours is obviously a custom based on the 000-16SGT with koa back and sides.Its a great deal anyway you look at it..Let me give you fair warning Dave! Do not discover the martin 0000 or "M" size models.They are some of the best sounding guitars martin makes.Gruhns has a 000018 based on the golden era specs that is jsut amazing.I think Vince Gill has bought 4-5 of these already...I have a custom M42 and just love it.The "M" size and 0000 is the exact same size by the way. |
