I went to a antique /flea market place yesterday on a lazy sunday afternoon and while thumbing thru some albums i found a Glen Cambell album(looks to be 80's)with Glen playing his Elite prototype. Its the one like Bill has (with the inlay design from cwk2 wifes necklace)..Anyway, i bought the album called "Its just a matter of time"..The back says "Lent for promotional use only.Any sale or unauthorised transfer is prohibited...Well so much for that i bought it for $1...
After buying the Album,i started wondering how many arists used Ovation guitars on the cover of their album or on the inside sleeve or any pic on an album or CD.Thought this would be intersting to see how many we can come up with
I'll start it off..

Glen Campbell(cover) Its a matter of time
Jesse Colin Young(cover)On the Road
George Dalaras (cover)Greatest hits
Niel Diamond (inside sleeve)Hot August night

By the way Sam, what did you think of the GC album? That's a good one from about 1985.

Paul, i think this is some of Glens best work...I enjoyed it.It was nice cranking up the turntable again..I dont know how many people even own a turntable any more but turntables have a interesting sound..I just recently put together a vintage 70's stereo system(Marantz silver face)..All the stuff i wanted as a kid but could not afford..Anyway,i enjoyed Glens album and the ovation Elite pic is nice on the cover..

not only do I have a vintage turntable. Phase linear and Harmon Kardon linear tracking. I have a tube citation II amp with genelex kt 88's and a paragon preamp which is also all tube.
I use 4 bose 901's for the highs and mids and also use a crown vfx2 cross over to a jbl e 150 sub woofer.
I find it fascinating that people will spend so much time finding the perfect guitar amp gear etc and then play their cd's through a tin can.

those marantz recievers are great I have had many and traded and sold and used them through the years. workhorses.
You can use a subwoofer but best is to run it through a crossover. YOu need to get a stereo cross over that will allow you to take both signals and send it out to a single channel. The crown can do that and so can many others.
I would love to find a pair of old AR lst speakers I loved those. When I was a kid working in a stereo store I used to a/b the bose and AR stuff all the time. I wound up with bose only because of a crazy deal I made. Most of my audiophile friends hate them but with the added sub woofer the placement is not critical so you get all the bass response you need. I can rattle the windows if I want to and I do want to and have done it over and over and over and over and over...

I have a Cerwin Vega SW120B passive subwoofer that has a built-in crossover at 120hz. Basically, you wire speakers out into the sub, and then out from the sub to your mains. Everything below 120hz goes through the massive floor-firing ported sub, and everything over 120hz gets routed to the mains. This set-up works fabulously with my Bose 301 Series II, totally rounding out the sound. BTW, am driving with an older HK rated at 85 watts.

Al, Stonebobo thanks for the subwoofer advise.I will get one and ad it to my system so i can rattle my walls.Lets see how good they nailed the trim on the house!!

Now getting back on topic.I was at a music store and saw a "Queen" DVD with Fredie Mercury playing a 12 string acoustic on the cover..Looks like there is a lot more Ovation representation than we think out there..I have also seen a pic of Ace Frehly of Kiss playing a white breadwinner and Pete Townshend of the "Who" playing a breadwinner. They were not on album or CD covers but good exposure anyway...

I have a ton of vinyl albums, (not joking, I have 3 or more album racks from the 50's through the 80's that weigh a ton), but I can't recall one with an Ovation on the cover. I do have GC on 12 string, Johnny Cash Sun albums, Deja Vu, and Mickey Newberry, 100's of pounds of big band, and even a Django or two, and some bluegrass, lots of early Kristofferson and who knows what else.

Michael Schenker has custom painted Custom Legends (I think) on all 3 of his acoustic "thank you" (1, 2, 3) cd covers. He has them painted in the black/white theme of the Gibson flying V's he's known for.

I haven't heard these cds of his, just seen them. The reviews I've heard weren't too favorable. Curious if anyone has them, what they think.

If I recall correctly, the Boston albums feature a "spaceship" guitar, which is not specifically an Ovation, but is a roundback acoustic.

I forgot all about Renaissance. I must have seen them a dozen times. Great band and Annie Haslam has a great voice.

Al,

I bet we were at the same shows. Capital Theater in Passiac and Asbury Hall Convention Center come to mind. Annie still performs (I saw her a few years ago) and she lives in Philly. How about the stand-up guitars holders that Dunford had? They were basically Ovation bowls on a standup post that his guitar would nicely cradle into.

Great stuff

Mr Balladeer

My wife was born in Erie and grew up in Conneaut OH. I also grew up in the Conneaut area and visited Erie often. Welcome to the board.

Not to get off the subject, but you mentioned Upper Darby. Was that in Philly? A bunch of us GI's were sent from Ft. Eustis to the Sikorski plant in Bridgeport, CT for a class in maintaining the H-34 Helicopter. On the way we spent a great weekend in Upper Darby in Philadelphia, where one of our number lived. This was in 1955 and it was a really nice place, there was a great train system running through it (Main Line) and super nice neighborhoods. We hit some clubs but I have no idea what there names were, it was just plain fun. Just had to ask.

you are correct Upper Darby is a section of Philadelphia at the 69th st "el" stop. The big theatre there is the Tower where many acts still perform. Like most cities in the US it has seen its better days and I wish I could go back into time to '55 and see how it was then.

It was great, typical 50's just a nice place to visit, the girls were pretty, the houses were pretty, the music was pretty, the outlook was pretty. And, best of all, we were young.
