Joined: March 2004 Posts: 201 Location: Vernon, CT | I was at The Guitar Center in Manchester, CT buying a Hal Leonard music book and on the wall was a "used" no brand indicated cutaway natural finish (wooden not lyrachord or carbon fiber) ROUNDBACK for sale at $1,499? I played it for a couple of minutes and it sounded different but not quite the "O" sound I'm used to hearing. Nice playing and sounding none the less (but not like my Legend LX which I like better). Anyway, the manager didn't know much about it except it came from their central S&H center along with some Balladeers and a couple of new LX's amongs the usual Gibsons, Fenders, etc. Is this the infamous Ovation employee built one of a kind guitar I heard about in some earlier strings on this website?? Or does anyone know what this guitar might be....very curious? Play on! John L. Std. Balladeer Legend LX Celebrity C026 Tornado Martin D16GT Takamine 12 String Fender P-Bass

There is only one of 'em and NO WAY would it have sold for that little. Al's right. It was probably an Alvarez.

But then again my guitar knowledge has been limited to Gibsons, Fenders, Ovations, Takamine's and Martins. Anything much outside of that and it's a whole new world for me. Thanks for the info. But how in hell do they build 'em like that?? Guess, that's another story! : ) Play on! John L. Std. Balladeer Legend LX Celebrity C026 Tornado Takamine 12 String Martin D16GT Fender P-Bass

I wonder how old the strings are on that thing. Must sound like dirt Have to go change them LOL By the way the mold was an Ovation bowl LOL

What If I may ask did you do to reinforce the neck placement? solid wood block? To be honest I wonder how hard it would be to place this wood covering over the plastic backs as the are now? some epoxy resin and patience I'll bet this could be done without the incredible luthier work you have done on this? Randy From one woodworker to another this is quite a job! must have been hard to let it go? There are some real artists and guitarists on this list! Thanks again

Ya it was hard to sell and think about buying it back but I have enough guitars. I needed money so I sold it for a fraction of what it was appraised at. Which I wont tell you. But thats why guitar center bought it for 2500$ Lots of paper work with the guitar,.. Laying veneer over the Lyrichord isnt my thing.Make it out of wood or not. Oh the neck block is Black walnut shaped like a mouth. So when the top arches in the summer the block swells and raises the neck angle to compensate. Believe it or not. Thanks for the praise. That guitar almost killed me hehehe

That would make a lovely display/show piece for any Store or collection. It should at least be incuded with the "Babe test" I heard alluded to earlier!

The 1 looked like a 4 or vice versa. I didn't ask the price because I already have another "special order" blue colored Ovation Balladeer LX coming from Al P. in the next two months. So whether is or was $1,499 or $4,999 it is not in the cards right now for me. Never the less it is one hell of nice guitar and whomever buys it will be getting a unique instrument that will only appreciate in dollars and sense!!! : ) Play On! John L. Std. Will say that the manager and Mike Dee (except for Mike calling me "Dude") were very helpful. If anyone is interested, Mike did ask if I was interested if I could save $1,500 - in other words, possibly $3,500. I agree, a very nice instrument...good job Kevin.

Actually Tony - next time someone plops a "dude" into a conversation just retaliate with "Sweet" and "Cha-a-a (Yes)" or even "Tubular". They'll quit first. Every time. Very nice guitar - it will look nice beside the EJ CL12-5!

Nobody ELSE . . . . just me. After about six months of this, I quietly took him aside, put my arm over his shoulder and told him that I thought that he was a REALLY nice guy, and that I really liked him, but if he ever called me "dude" again I would have absolutely no alternative but to tear off his head and shit down his neck. Worked.
