Today I turned on my Zoom H4 in the kitchen (unplugged, straight into the can): a rough 3-minute ditty-- "CARBON 14" ! I don't think a Martin would deliver the goods like this.

Thanks so much (where else can I get instant feedback? wow)! And you KNOW what I'm working with! (1581) At our last gig a nice gent approached us and asked WHAT INSTRUMENTS WE WERE PLAYING? Sigh.

Then there's the eternal genre question: What kind of music IS that? Well, it's simple actually: sort-of country jazz with a Greek Tzatziki garlic sauce and spiced with Hot Curry rock :)

Unplugged Carbon can raise even a purists eyebrow.
Great job Greg.

Thanks Jonmark. I, too, am an admirer of your MySpace music: professional and very musical!

By "purist" do you mean genre (country v jazz etc.) or do you mean wood v carbon?

Thanks Greg.
I was referring to wood purists.
I take a lot of pleasure in handing my Adamas to someone who's O opinion was formed by imports. The reaction often borders on shock.

I still believe Adamas could make a dent in the high end market if there were more available in stores for comparison.
After 30+ years, there are simply too few guitarists who've had the chance to play one.

Off my soapbox for the day...

Very impressive. I like your work. I agree it would be good to see more Adamii in stores. Since I first saw one over 20 years ago, I have seen 4 in stores (and I bought one of those).

I appreciate the kind words, for sure!

DIG IT: I like my UNPLUGGED tone and sound 100% more than plugged-in. I just can't get the beef and round sound despite all the reverb and chorus etc. And when you add synth, the notion "acoustic" goes out the window...

I was playing in Miami when I first saw one in a music store. Took it off the wall and got to know it for a while.
When I got back to Tennessee I called the factory and ordered one.

I had been playing Ovations for 10 years and was a Keyman, but had never gotten the chance to see or play one up till then.

That was 25 years ago and I've only seen one other Adamas in a store.

Yeah, what gives. I've NEVER EVER seen a real Adamas on a GC wall or anywhere.

If not for Stephen's collection and Temp's encouragement, I'd still be carbon-less.

Why is Adamas "frozen out" of the retail market? Lot's of pricey axes everywhere.... it's not just the price.

Demand. $3500. Martins/Taylor/whatever out sell Adamas by (guessing) 10,000 to 1.

No dealer is gonna stock something that will never sell. I know, the argument is that they don't sell because nobody knows they exist because nobody ever sees them in a store, advertisement, high profile professional players endorsement.

If Ovation all of a sudden did get orders for thousands of Adamas guitars I don't think they'd know what the hell to do. It's just not a popular guitar, that's never gonna change so I've just learned to accept it. It has nothing at all to do with the quality of the instrument and fortunately for those of us that do seek out these diamonds in the rough, we have Lost Art Vintage who can still (?) get us what we want.

It's a very strange catch 22 then, isn't it.
The others out sell Adamas because they are widely available to touch, play and buy on impulse. The majority of retailers won't stock Adami because they believe (or know) they won't sell.
Old news I guess.

Anyway, very happy to have the one I have. The carbon fibers have aged well.

I repeat the ancedote: Last Saturday, at a gig in a nice joint, a well-dressed gent approached us and asked "what instrument is that you're playing?"

To the profane, then, an Adamas 1581 does not even LOOK like a guitar! What would Kaki do?

In all my years I had only seen pictures of them... till this year.

The first Adamas I ever saw in person, I bought.

Well, Damon, your 2080 is a beaut. Although you didn't break it out at your last gig, I think it would've been great as the vehicle for your soulful version of "Dee". I'm a big RR (& J. Becker) fan and always remember how Ozzy complained that, while he was busy getting high at the next stop on the tour, Randy was out getting a lesson from "some Al Di Meola guy" Verbatim from the riveting biopic "Don't Blame Me" Check it out!

She'd quickly unleash a witty off-color insult that would leave the gentleman wondering what just happened.

Kaki would, in fact! On the other hand, maybe the poor guy was confused by the Roland synth sounds that tend to overwhelm our acoustic presentation?

That's why, for a bit, I'm going UNPLUGGED!
