That's a Nutmeg tone.
Most were painted colors.
Maybe one fourth were natural or wood tones.
Most of those were Sunburst and many were Reddish or Nutmeg.

Sweet!

I have one like that. Solid one piece mahogany body, probably Honduras and left from the Deacon runs. Two piece mahogany neck, ebony board, and late schaller chrome bridge. My s/n is just a few numbers short of E20000. I had the factory refinish it about 10 years ago, the original finish starting clouding over, which made the finish appear to be satin. I have no idea how many were made. I've watched and only seen a handful like this. I like the one I have a lot.

These things with the larger schaller bridges have sustain up the wazoo. My V3 has a preacher type hollowness to it with the black bridge. The V3 though kills it through an amp though. Amazing sound. Stonebobbo can you post a pic of yours? I'd like to see it. Thanks!

Here is Nutmeg Gloss. My satin viper is a 199xxx serial as well. End of the line for the viper 1981 I think.

I knew something wasn't right with the sound... These just happened to be the only pics I had on my computer.

Thanks Mark. I have a bad case of GAS too. I really should part with one but I'm terribly torn. I want a UKII real bad and one of these could fund that but I like them both so much.

I wouldn't get rid of either, but yes, definately get a UKII. Have you ever played one? If not, just wait till you A/B it against all your other guitars.

I only have one Viper, a light skinned cousin of yours. Your Viper's daddy was a Hog, mine had a Flamin Maple.

I do have 2 UKIIs though

danomyte - Never seen that finish

And you won't again. There's only 1, made for Bill Kaman, the mastermind behind the best solidbody ever built, the UKII.

danomyte - Sell it to me. Pleeeeeease!

$5k in my paypal would get me boxing it up right now and at Fedex in the next hour... but I'd consider a reasonable offer.

A very generous offer. If it were a white UKII you had to offer up with the Elite, you mighta had me.

Careful what you start around here!

And yes, they do tend to haze up and suffer indignities over time.

Woody, I got to ask ... what's with the notches (hashmarks) on the neck at the first fret?

I didn't do it!
I got it that way from Numbfingers who rescued it from somewhere. Another unexplained mystery.
