Picked up an Ebay Celeb in Koa and replaced the piezo and upgraded to an OP40.

This Koa is just mesmerizing.

Sure is if you keep posting those beauts!

I've talked to Al once about the OFC koa. I'm afraid to call him again...

Obviously the first koa is hard, the rest just find their way home, uh Woody?

Alright Woody, enough already. One of us needs to pack some guitars into a vehicle and go visit the other of us.

Congrats on the new wood!

NICE!

Was interested in your comment about upgrading preamp.

I have an Elite Special S868 with a 24+ preamp, can I easily replace with say an OP40?

It'll take a bit of cutting but it can be done.

Iffy - less tawk and mo action! Do you realize that there are only 25 Oval Holed Koa's in the entire Galaxy? One on the wall at Mother's and a scant few at Uncle Al's Lost Guitar and Corn Beef Sandwich Shop!

BTW - I can quit any time...

Agreed. Did you see that special all Koa Tak LTD on the Bay? I was considering it until I realized the bowl width was not as thin as I had first thought.

I've been hankerin' for something koa since that seek preview of the koa collector.

That koaT didn't have a chance.
The classic example of an impulse purchase.

How many of our OGAS purchases are planned?

I think I may have made only three or four deliberated 'O' buys. The rest have been 'drive by or buy' opportunities.

The OFC koa is definitely an ongoing pondered consideration.

Impulse buy: Less than $300.00

Guilt Laden Impulse Purchase (GLIP): $300.00-$500.00

Forced Inventory Reduction Event Sale, FIRE Sale: $600.00 to $3,800.00, Paypal not accepted, Visa OK but cash or check is better.

I love my Koa. (did I say thanks?) Getting lots of oohs and ahs around here, btw.

The 87 and 1581 were fast grabs at guitars I had been looking for.

The Viper and Longneck were unavoidable O-bombs launched from outside of Denver.... direct hits...

I thought that KOA wood was becoming so scarce that they were limiting the amount that was being processed a couple of years ago and now it seems to be very easy to find guitars with it .

What is also contagious is the use of you tools:

Less one Epaulet and added one OP 40 which improved the sound alot.

there are several regulated koa forests here on big island. it is virtually unavailable on the other hawaiian islands except for some downed trees on kaua'i from hurricane iniki in '92. most of that was state owned land and they sell it in small quantities to local artisans. it seems there is about enough koa to keep up with demand at the current levels, but along with all else, it is getting more expensive.

Question - is Koa available from other areas? Sometimes see "Hawaiian Koa" listed as the wood.

acacia koa is found only in hawaii and mainly on this island. there are other related acacia species such as the australian blackwood but only one koa.
