| Moody, that's an interesting EQ set-up on the PODxt...drive/presence about the same, bass/treble about the same, with a boost on the mid's...and channel vol/output maxed out.. |

The problem is that Michael is a damn fine classical player so the object was to strum a few chords and then hand it back to him to entertain me. Maybe he'll comment here. Dave |

Location: SoCal | Ovation built 2 supershallow bowl Adamii for Glen in either '81 or '82, the nylon string pictured above and now owned by Michael, and a steel string now owned by Bluebird of this board.
The nylon string has a Country Artist neck on it, with Adamas written on the headstock. Originally, it had no fret markers. But the person who had the gutiar before Michael had the markers put on that you see in the picture. Glen played this guitar on his 1982/83 half hour music show. Plugged in, it sounds great. Acoustically, it leaves a lot to be desired.
I've played the guitar on several occassions, always hoping that some of Glen's mojo will come thru. I've been S.O.L. on that one. It's a neat guitar and a great piece of Glen/Ovation history. I'm first in line if Michael ever decides to sell it, but between playing it and playing my 1773LX, well, I'll almost always pick up the LX. It's a much better instrument. |

Here is a pic of the sister guitar to the nylon Adamas that Paul refers to. The steel string version sounds surprisingly good acoustically considering the shallow bowl and all the hardware bolted to the underside of the top. It is fantastic plugged in; smooth and even sounding, with easy action.

If it is like mine, the switch you refer to is a roller type volume knob. The tone is a regular wooded knob on the top waist while the steel-string has the slider eq for tone.

I'm wondering if the mother ship would make me a nylon U681T or CVT 1680, without charging me an arm & leg for it...and then, would the sound be worth it?
I really don't like the newer outer ring the ute & CVT have, I'm definately a fan of the older Adamas I & II rolled cord ring.
I look at Dave's galley and think anything is possible ;) |

If it's a great sounding nylon string you are looking for you should consider the 1773LX, 6773LX or one of the high end real classicals. Sure, you could order a 1680 with nylon string bridge, nut, tuners, and flat fingerboard. But people who know a heck of a lot more about it than me have said a nylon on adamas top just doesn't work. You can't turn a sow's ear into a silk purse. That's pretty much what I figured I would be doing by adding nylon strings to an Adamas, but I figured since it had been done on the prototype and people have heard that played, they could give me an educated opinion on the sound.
I have been checking out the 1773LX, but I don't really care for its the overall asthetic looks. I have the same opinion of the FD-14, but everyone on this board has told me the sound is excellent.

Location: Phoenix AZ | Tim, People don't buy nylon string guitars for their looks. Go play some real classicals and you'll be amazed by the tone.
Here's an idea - try putting some nylons on your U681. Just tie ball knots in the ends. The nut will be all screwed up and it really won't be playable but it'll give you an idea of the sound. Dave |

Location: 6 String Ranch | As I recall these were basically Magnum 2 electronics doctored up so the volume knob went sideways. This way Glen could have the vol control at his fingertips but not be in the way. |
