Driving 120 miles a week for instruction does not appeal to me. That Lanaki guy had to go an post that great song of his and now has me thinking I could do that if I knew how. Anyone... Dave

Dave there are many good resources on style and technique. what these materials cannot do is teach you how to put your heart into what you play. that gift comes from your Creator. i learned some technique from watching the following two videos: "Acoustic Finger Picking" featuring Jamie Findlay and "The Art of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar" taught by Keola Beamer. you said something very crucial: "has me thinking I could do that". you CAN do it so keep thinking that way. i am available to assist you in any way i can. just don't steal my song before i get it copyrighted! ;)

I reckon there'll be some absences from the OFC board for a few days as everyone elses trawls through it too.

Marcel Dadi was a french guitarist who made discover the picking and revitalize the guitar in France. He records in french Traditional techniques of the picking in french "Les techniques traditionnelles du picking"; In spite of the language that remains very comprehensible, more especially as there are fingering charts. He also records in english "Nashville Picking" 2 DVD's with tabs. In the same spirit "The guitar of Chet Atkins" taught by Chet Atkins. You can found them on amazone.com for example!!! I'm still working on Hippie-Guitar-Circle chords and such. There are a whole lot of lessons there. And if you find someone you like, you can push 'subscribe' and you will be automatically directed to their videos. I was just looking at Justin Sandercoe, who is good for us simple folk. I don't know how advanced you wanna be, but outta 173,000 choices, you should find something. Have Fun

Only found a few "O's" to check out and only one special issue Elite was worth picking up to try it. Tried a couple Martins' also...VHD-28 and an HD-28 and was very impressed with both. 1st Martins' I've played in a store for a long time that had me thinking "This one I'd like to take home." Dave Anyway, I looked through some of the vid's and books and came home with a Hal Leonard DVD, "50 licks country style" featuring Troy Dexter and a Progressive book called "Guitar Method Fingerpicking" that includes tabs along with a CD and DVD. Have yet to open them so can't say if I got trash or treasure. Will report after I have some time with them. Couldn't for the life of me remember who moody had recommended but will write it down and look next time. 2ifbyC, that is an awesome link, thank you. francois JR, I'll check those also, thanks! OMA, I do like your idea but, I need something right now that is simple that I can go to over and over again. I find with YouTube that I get too distracted checking out the next great tune and next thing I know my time is gone. :) But, I will look into it and see if I can come across something that grabs me.

I would hate to see that. Dave

There used to be a place on White Ave across from Mother's but I don't think its there anymore. Ed

Ed The place on Whyte Ave you are thinking of is Gordon Price Music and it is still there. They had some O's, but they were all shallow bowls. Mothers' Music is now on 109 St. and they also had some O's but were all the low end line, that I could see. Long & McQuade had 4-5 O's in the guitar room. They have a special L & M 30th Anniversery model the looks kind of like the 2001? Collector. Top looked sort of like Redwood. It had the contour bowl, Op-Pro Studio preamp, and Elite top. It had "the best" sound/tone of all the O's I played. For that matter it was much better than the few Taylors and Takimines I played there also. I don't recall the model #s on those. I also stopped at Avenue Guitars on Whyte Ave, to check out the Martin guitars. They always have good stock on Martins. I've never played a Martin in there that I really liked until this time. Played a HD-28 and a VHD-28; both had good tone, with the Vintage having the edge. Also played a D-16, and while it had good tone for the price, it was not as full and warm as the other two. They also had a Koa (b&s) 28 that the sales guy played for me...WOW...but, $15,000! Sales guy told me they have a Brazilion Rosewood Special Edition D-28 coming that will be $45,000...love to see/hear that one! Supposed to be the only one of those coming into Canada. Hope that helps you, Ed. Dave

I'm sure if I had sounded like I might purchase he would have handed it to me. I really just wanted to hear it played, so it was not a big deal and I didn't push it. Beeeautiful sound!!!

All kinds of flowers and stuff on the skid-pad, abalone goodies on the fretboard. Like my friend sez when he sees a kid in a 'tuner'... "Do those stripes make it go any faster?" I don't play well enough to justify paying that much for a guitar. (I can barely justify paying what I do pay.) But I do like to drool.
