Hi... am new here.

Just bought myself my first Ovation acoustic - a sunburst 1975 deep bowl model "1111". I have to say that I am really enjoying it. Originally bought it for my son, but I like it so much that I have given him my old Gibson LG-0 instead! Really impressed.

I also own a 1969 Gibson J-200, a '67 J-45, a 2002 J-185 and a 2000 Martin D-35 .... so it has some stiff competition... and it's doing okay!

One thing though.... how DO I stop it sliding off my lap??

(Don't answer that.... there's probably a Topic in here, somewhere!)

Bruno,

Welcome to the club.

To keep an Ovation from sliding off your lap has been discussed before. Try using a strap.

One of the other members was selling a stick on patch which works well also.

Wa-hey - someone else from the right side of the pond!

Welcome Bruno - enjoy the forum. We're mostly good guys... just go with the flow and act puzzled when anyone mentions Llamas.

Welcome Bruno. Nice guitar(s).
To help with the sliding problem, I use 3M "Safety Walk" outdoor strips. Available in hdwr stores in various widths, I cut them to a suitable shape (with my wife's sewing scissors) and stick them on. Works great. John <>{

Also, we try to use less forearm pressure with the strumming arm against the front of the guitar.

Welcome!

A dab of LlamaSnot on the waist of the guitar.

It's real slippery at first, but "tacks up" real nice when it starts t'dry . . .

Welcome!

Some of the more avant grande, pierced,
and tattooed among us afix a series of
tacks along the bottom waist of the guitar.
No slippage and, as a bonus, no one asks to
borrow your guitar!

I'm fairly tall at 6'2" and my fav chair puts my thigh just slightly higher at the knee than hip so it doesn't slide. I had to do some serious work on my belly though...bellies and deep bowls don't mix. I called it my "deep bowl diet"...basically I just switched to lite beer, gave up my lucky charms while surfing at night and started walking more. I lost 20lbs!...LOL.

welcome aboard!

Hmmm ... a navel piercing with some form of "Hook and Eye" arrangement sounds highly "do-able", I think!

"There are a few of us over this side of the pond"

A virtually invisible man in Canterbury.

A uke-playing rockabilly-lovin' homicidal car-wrecker on the Isle of Man who wants to sell you some real estate.

A fookin total fookin psychopath from oop fookin County Durham way.

And me.

We need you to be more specific than "England" - I like to get my regional prejudices working. I don't want to waste time starting to like you if you're going to turn out to be from Manchester/Liverpool/Birmingham, anywhere really...

So a temporary hello and welcome.

And be warned - despite their efforts to write in English most of the people on this board are actually American. And one of them is a lawyer - so if you ask an innocent question about Ovations he bills you for the answer.

If that's not bad enough there are also Croatians, Dutch, Germans, Italians, Canadians, FRENCH(!!!!!)and (deep breath) Australians. This is a strange, strange place.

A lawyer that only (£30) charges for the answer? (£60) He must be a benevolent soul (£90) .... either that or he hasn't quite grasped (£120) the fact that when you ask most lawyers (£150) a question, these days ,(£180) they start the meter running.....

(That'll be £210, please)

There are actually a couple of regulars who are lawyers.
Schroeder, you can send Mitch and me what you owe us any time, but interest is running. Since Mitch is a plaintiffs' lawyer, you can send him 1/3. Send me the other 2/3. It doesn't matter that you don't know how much you owe, you admitted liability. Just keep sending money until we tell you when to stop. Bruno, since you are new, I'll answer your question and send you a bill. They won't slide off your leg if your chest is bigger than your belly.
Please ask more questions, now that I know how the legal system works over in England.

One of the best ways to get a talkative client to shut up in a deposition before he or she gives up too much information is to say, "We're charging you by the minute." Suddenly, it's not so important for everyone to hear their side of the story.

Bruno

I grew up in the Chichester area, having lived in West Wittering and finaly Selsey. I went to college there too.

I spent too much time in too many pubs in North and South Street. However, in the end, the Angelsey Arms was my watering place. This was in the 70's so along time ago. However, most of my real friends are still local and my parents still live in Selsey. Now based outside Canterbury and as Schroder says, I keep my head down here.

I am coming back for the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Revival meeting, which is my all time favorite petrol head gathering. It is the best in the world. I have worked there since it started and do the VIP security and have therefore met many of the all time greats, including many American Racers, such as Danny Sullivan, Mario Andretti etc.

regards

Piers

See - all the brits come out of the woodwork in the end!

I'd just like to add that I'm not a habitual car-wrecker. That's just a one-off.

If you do ever want to buy a flat on the Isle of Man, though - let me know. I may well have mine for sale! ;)

Enjoy!
