Noob here...Saw an E Bay auction for a Deacon limited go well over 1K recently. I have a Grey/Black NOS from my dad's store in the 70's basically untouched. Are these sleepers that are going up in value? Although they were supposed to be a limited run of 500, I did not think one would EVER go for that price. Any other history to this guitar model would be appreciated. (by the way, the extra upper bout cut makes all the difference in their look. Is that part of it)Thanks!

Welcome!

They are the sleeper like you said. The trick is in the timing. Set your reserve and take a few stabs at it.

Or just give it to me as a sign of friendship ;)

What store did Dad own?

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I live in Pittsburgh and my Dad had a music store called Clef Music Studio back in the 70's. My parents got out of the retail end and use the business as a teaching facility out of their home now. The store got me started many years ago in gathering a fair collection of instruments as well as some luthier training in another local music store in the late 80's. I have no intentions of selling the Deacon as it is basically unplayed. I was just surprised that one of these brought that kind of cash. That and an 80's Balladeer cutaway are my two Ovations. The balladeer by contrast has seen LOTS of playtime as it goes camping and to partys etc. Cheers!

Hang on to the Deacon another 5 years and see what happens. I predict a big awareness on the Ovation solids soon.

Alas, I am unable to hoard any plunder. The Captain insists that I keep rotating my plunder.

Thought I would post some pics of this guitar. I dug it out and put some batteries in it. It seems VERY high endy and loud thru a Marshall DSL50...

I don't know how a color and body shape can compliment each other...
But that is stunning!

I really don't care for the shape in the other color configurations...

it's just something in THAT color that makes it work... really well.

I've got one. :D The only thing better than the way it looks, is the way they play.

FYI, It's a BREADWINNER Limited model 1256 in Barnwood Burst. The only thng I've considered doing to mine is to put on a pickguard without the white edge, and change the knobs to something more like a gibson speed-knob In black of course. I don't want anything to detract form the beautiful grey mohogany grain....
