Location: Central Massachusetts | What color are the raw Adamas soundboards before the folks in CT get their hands on them?
I assume the woven tops are the stereotypical grey a la 2080 or W597. But how do they do different colors (like cobalt) of the wovens?
And what about the textured tops?
Seems like all the ones I saw on the tour last year already had a burst on them.

Location: Rocky River, Ohio | my guess for the textured tops would be a dark charcoal / black, like the inside of the adamas, where the braces are glued to.

Location: Central Massachusetts | So Jeff, is the center of your custom redburst the "natural" color, or are they painting that grey/matt black/charcoal and then doing the burst over it?
Seems like it's more of a slate/carbon/charcoal color than, say, the 08 Collector's which appears to be painted black.

Location: Marlton, NJ | I can tell you that the raw woven tops are dark grey - almost black - because I have one ;)
The paint that they use (at least for the cobalt blue) is an automotive spray paint - the brand is SEM. I got that from John Budny. I also have the paint. Someday I will put the paint and the top together and make something. |

Location: Central Massachusetts | But Mike, if you spray paint the cobalt over the woven top, won't you lose that carbon fibre look? I could have sworn the woven cobalt top I've seen (TDeej's W598) the blue was impregnated into the fibre somehow so you could still see the pattern. |

Location: Jet City | I used to work in a boat shop building boats. One of my first jobs in my youth, and one of the worst jobs too. We used carbon fiber sparingly to reinforce certain stress points.
Carbon fiber is blackish. Comes on a roll. After you lay it out and and ad the resins and it hardens it looks like this:

With a finish that rough, you could brush latex over it, and it would still have the texture. The only way to lose the texture (ala the 597) is to use a thin coat of resin/epoxy to make it smooth. Paint won't even come close. |

Location: Marlton, NJ | DVD - I did a couple of test pieces. You don't lose the woven look. I did a couple of coats on one of them and it was still there. I haven't put a finish coat on yet, but I have a feeling that'll draw out the pattern even more. |

Location: SoCal | You know, it's easy enough to find out the original color of an Adamas top. A little sand paper, a little rubbing, and not only will you know, but you'll have a damned unique looking top as well..... |
