Am I correct in assuming that if the guitar case is really warm, I should wait before opening it in my Air Conditioned suite? I have never gotten one this warm before. Looks real nice on the outside. It is a CSE24-5, and I really wanna play with it! And I wasn't even sure that I was getting this ZG Case, the seller said 'Ovation Gig Bag' and 'Case' interchangeably. (The Zero Gravity Case is almost worth the whole deal) I got the Celebrity for foul weather busking. So now, just like in the winter, I gotta wait!

If it came in a gig bag in the box I wouldn't worry too much about it. When I open it a crack and stick my hand in there, it is about 110° in there and about 69° in the room. The case is like one of those styrofoam coolers in a gym bag. I will wait a little bit longer. I do have other guitars to play with. :D

That is just some reflection or fur-ball or something on the lower top... And goldish tuners... I stuffed that gasket back under the can lip and tightened-up those screws. It does have some scratches, but I just got some stuff to try to fix that. Buff it up when I change the strings. :D

I was telling people who didn't like the heat that once this ended it would start raining... And that would be IT for another nine months. I just cleaned this guitar all up... I used Restore 'swirl remover' and took the sharp edges off of the scratches. So I will have this all ready for playing in the cooler, damper weather. This one still has a Solid Top, but I won't cry as much if something happens to it. So I shined it up and oiled it all up... And she's all ready to Go! ![]()

Joined: March 2010 Posts: 370 Location: Winnipeg, Manitoba CANADA | Those older Giannini Craviolas are great guitars. Well made by craftsmen in Brazil from nice woods. I used to own a 12 string (that I wish I still had...). A 'friend' borrowed it to play at a party, got drunk and managed to wreck it (ASSH*LE!!). He paid for it, but they aren't that easy to find anymore. There was a six string (similar to this one that went for $251 USD on goodwill.com last week. A lot of guitar for not-too-big bucks... :)

I know I got a deal and like you said, they are just cool. Hey OM'ee, mind if I hijack your thread? Good job on the clean up! For the record - If the outside of the case is "HOT" I would not hesitate to open it up since the heat will do more damage than the transition to a 70 degree room.

Now taking a guitar from freezing to above 70 instantly is a sure recipe for major finish cracks...

I just wasn't sure if it worked the other way. Just took the Celebrity outside and played today... Might go back out. I sounds really nice. (Through a Roland Cube Street on JC Clean, which also makes a nice stool) I did a side-by-side with the 1771LX and the CSE held it's own. The LX is Lighter, but the CSE sounds nice next to it. Different, but nice.

It's best to let a guitar change temperature as slowly as possible. Those trucks can up to and over 100 degrees in the sun easily... Dropping from 100 to 75, is just as bad as going from 50 - 75. The packing and the case act as a buffer letting the temperature fall or rise slowly. Much easier on the finish and glued parts.hot is just as bad as cold IMHO. best to let the guitar get to room temp.
