Location: On The Fringe Of Ground Zero | I wonder how Fender will influence the Ovation U.S.A. line? Will all of Kaman guitars be made overseas? If the Ovation U.S.A. models will still be manufactured here I wonder how much they'll charge? Fender Strats and Teles made in the U.S. have gone up quite a bit in the past few years. Many of the Custom Shop mdels have shown a price spike. |

I understand some production is indeed going elsewhere, I believe in the lower range ovations, so there might be some relief price wise there.
Of course, the factory will have new work making Tacoma and Guild's. |

Location: On The Fringe Of Ground Zero | Speaking about Guild, a few years ago I found two Bluesbirds NIB an Amber SH-1 and Tobaccoburst PAF, these are sweet versatile players. Before I bought the 6751LX 12 I checked out quite a few Guild 12 string guitars but they just didn't do it for me.
I'm walking on thin ice at this time - one more guitar will put me in the dog house..... if only I could sneak another Ovation in...... |

Pre-Fender, if you wanted a Custom Legend 12-string, special order 3-6 months (unless someone happended to have one in stock). Post-Fender, as there are no stores that I have seen that carry the "Custom" line (Custom Legend and Custom Elite), I would expect that the 6 string becomes a special order (or custom order) also. So, delay and possible increased costs.
As there are no or limited artist relations, advertisement, product placement, etc., for these guitar models...I have to believe sales numbers are not high. Will an order be a production run at a lower cost than a custom order? Doubt it. At least there would not be economy of scale from a planned production run as other models.
Will the models eventually be transferred overseas? Will the factory do a production run to create inventory? Will the models be discontinued except as part of the limited run once a year Collectors series? Who knows...guess we will have to wait and see.
In addition, increased labor and material costs that are inherent with many other products (cars, clothes, etc.).
Advice, order now. By the way, IMHO, best Custom Legend ever is the 30th Anniversary Custom Legend (I have two) that came out in 2004. Al has a NEW one with full warranty!! No brainer with OP-Pro/XLR, deep bowl, non-cutaway, 9158-0 case, etc. Fantastic guitar and I doubt that you will ever see this guitar available again (at least a new one). |

If you've noticed in the Gibson also took over other manufacturers as is Fender. Only time will tell. I've dealt with Sweetwater when I started collecting my toys and I've always got a good deal. |

Location: SoCal | Do whatever you want...wait a year or two...I do believe a quality, upper end Ovation will be more expensive and harder to get.
GuitarCenter may come out with a special...but they don't normally stock the high end Ovation (or Adamas). As to Sweetwater, this appears to be a part of the overall push for the E-T's.
Smaller sellers such as Al - very difficult to order 10-20, carry the inventory, etc. Al still has some of the Koas sitting there waiting for a buyer. Inventory is a hard cost for any dealer, especially for a small to medium.
Just remember that there were no U.S. made Ovations at NAMM.
On eBay, I expect the sellers to take advantage of this in their pricing.
Or, settle for a Celeb or at least an O that came from overseas.
I posted on the thread for the chop shops...my name was drawn for the Celeb guitar...I had them redraw for someone else as I had already won a box of strings. Only Celeb that I have is the palm tree Koa parlor as my wife wanted it. Good guitars, sell well...just not as good as what has come out of the CT factory.
Again, snooze, you lose...if you can, get one from current inventory or see if you can order one. |

A Quality guitar in a certain price -range will not be lowered in price , for it would n`t be considered a Quality guitar anymore , on the contrary , according to inflation -rules , prices will increase..

As for worrying about where Ovation will be in the future, I suppose I have bigger things to worry about like hoping my children turn out to be contributing members of the community instead of warts on the ass of society.
That said, I sure HOPE Ovation keeps churning out qualty USA made guitars. If not, all the one I have will skyrocket in value I spose. |

1. New Hartford is moving production of certain models to offshore facilities in order to open up manufacturing capacity for higher end models.
2. As an avowed capitalist, I believe that the market dictates pricing not the manufacturers - we get to decide how much we are willing to spend on any particular item. So if we think it is an extreme value, we buy loads (i.e. 2078T from Sweetwater) or if it too high we do not buy it. The manufacturers just have to make the pricing equation work, i.e. they move production overseas, they rebrand ("Custom Shop" guitars) and change market perception (Artist Relations, advertising and promotion) or they end up going out of business because the public won't pay the money required to build the product. In all events, it is the buyer with the dollars who will set the pricing based upon the perceived value they get for their money. It's up to the mickey marketeers to figure out all of those angles and then present the product to the market. The company then figures out how to make a profit from it. If they miss, it spells trouble for everyone. And that's the way it should be. |

I've told her five pairs of shoes equals another guitar, but I suspect my opinion doesn't count for much. Anyway, I'll wait until I take possession of my new one before I hunt for the one after. |
