I'm interested in the guitar, and have made an offer, but am having second thoughts about it. Do you think this is a 1981 Model 1111? The case is too new, but what about the guitar? The label is correct, but could it have been changed? To me, the keys are not correct, and the neck doesn't look right, either. Also, the top looks streaky. I need to make a decision pretty soon, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Which one are you looking at? (item number or link or photo please) I cannot find which one you mean.

I remember that went I sold a few at one time I sent them out with the crappiest cases that I had.
And kept the good cases. (Yeah, I'm a jerk. But they were buying a guitar, not a case.)
Also, if it is a 27 year-old guitar they may have just replaced the case.

Oh My My, Oh Hell Yes... That is definitely worth the price!
So, maybe it ain't 27 years old. (Did he tell you it was an '81?)
As to the case looking new, it IS. It still has the bar-code sticker on the end.
I don't see any surface cracks or nuthin'. I wish he had put a side-view for string height...
[Oh! and you get a ten-day inspection... Go for it!]

Now that you have told all these Bottom Feeders about it, you gotta buy it NOW, or someone will snag it.
Offer him $250 with free shipping... Or I will.
[So let everybody know which way you wanna go, Yeah or Nay... ]

I pushed the button. Hope it's as good as it looks. I need a case, so I won't get hurt too bad. I offered him 200.00, and he counteroffered me 219.00 plus 30.00 shipping. I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks for the help.

By the way, he gave me the S.N. that dates it to 1981. and a close-up shot of the interior label stating that it is indeed a 1111. It has a black bowl, for sure, and an ebony board.

Good Going! I am slowly thinning my herd, but if you had said that you didn't want it I woulda got it. Really!
(Figured-out where to put it later.)
Evil capitalist inside me sez that the case is worth a bit. And the guitar is definitely worth the rest.
Could you see the fiberglass cords on the inside?

Let us know how it is.

I'm not sure what I bought yet. I'm still trying to figure out if this is a 1111. There's just something strange about it. Could someone possibly have pasted the label in? I don't know, but looks to have an ebony board, and the bowl is black, so i'm hoping for the best. For the price, I got a new case, and a campfire guitar, if nothing else.

A 1111 should have an ebony fretboard...

I think this is what OMA was talking about, with the fiberglass bowl thing. Mine has a '60's neck, that appears to have an '80's bowl attached to it. Most likely, done at The Mothership. Unfortunately, the serial # tag has been lost (#%&*!!!!!)

And, this is the back of the peghead. Actually, this was my very 1st "O" repair, and my 1st "O", period. Reattached the peghead (correctly). NOT responsible for the Bondo, thank-you-very-much!

Exactly... In my 1121-4 (which is still a Great sounding guitar, even after I had to glue the headstock back on) you can see the cords from the fiberglass bowl. Unlike the new ones that bear the marks of injection molding.

I don't see the maple laminate strips on the back of the neck on the one that I bought. That is something that I was concerned about, also. I thought they all had that.

Around 1980-ish, they started putting in the Kaman Bar. The older ones have the regular Truss-Rod and a Truss Rod Cover have the nifty skunk stripe. They look much cooler, and the neck is lighter, but I think that they sound good. I doubt that the neck design will affect the overall sound. But I have never done a scientific study of the issue.

I had a 1981-ish 1112 with the same kind of neck, and it was a great guitar... Just dots & diamonds on the fretboard and abalone rosette, but otherwise the same guitar.

I think you made a wise purchase, but I guess we will all find-out in a week or so.

I have an early 80's Legend with the Kaman Bar, and a 78 Anniversary with the truss rod cover on the headstock. They both have the 5 piece neck (stripe). I also have a Legend prototype model that has the Kaman Bar, but the neck and headstock is black, so I can't tell if the neck is 5 piece or not. I know some of the cheaper model Ovations didn't have this feature, but i'm not sure which ones. The keys are not solid crome like some i've seen. They look to have a black center. Anyway, the label is for a 1111, and the S.N. dates it to 1981. I'll know more when it gets here.

Just got the U.P.S. tracking number and the guitar is scheduled to be delivered Monday, the 11th. That just happens to be my birthday, so this will be a great present. I'll have a full report when it arrives.

Another odd thing about this guitar is that there doesn't seem to be any pearl plugs covering the pins that attach the bridge to the body. I've never seen a Balladeer without that feature. Can't wait to get this one so I can try to figure it out.
