Though good in it's own right, might have special appeal to the crowd who thinks music stopped being good around 1978.

It's one of those CD's that I can listen to from beginning to end and really enjoy every tune. I would put them somewhere between "Coldplay" and "Three Doors Down".

Both Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks are incredibly talented and the two of them together have the same sort of chemistry that Duane and Dickie Betts had. If you get a chance watch Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes with The Allman Brothers Band: Live At The Beacon Theatre 2003...Amazing stuff. The performance on this DVD really shows the whole band's committment to practice and a tightness that is just magical. There's not too many live performances on a tour supporting a new release that surpasses the studio work, but this one not only surpasses the "Hittin' the Note" CD, it blows it away. It's almost as if they recorded the album too soon. And that's not to say that the album is bad or sloppy, because it's great as well, but the new songs on the Beacon Theatre performance were matured and fleshed out and are actually some of the best material on the DVD. As far as Dickie Betts, I think that it is just a shame that he doesn't have, and hasn't had for a long time, the commitment to practice and precision that made the Allman Bros. famous in the first place. He's got every bit as much talent as Duane or Warren or Derek, and is even better than them as a songwriter. But he just doesn't seem to care anymore how tight the sound is or at least seems unwilling to work to achieve it. I recently bought a Dickie Betts and Great Southern DVD, "Back where it all begins - Live at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" which is a performance he did there when he was inducted. Everyone on stage just seemed to have no idea what everyone else was doing or was going to do. It's an entertaining DVD none-the-less, and has some interesting interviews. There's a blues guitarist here in Houston named Mark May who toured with Dickie for about two years as second lead guitar, and I think he just got frustrated as hell. Improvisation is good but it still needs to be done within the structure of the song. When one member starts changing the structure in the middle of a song, it really leaves everyone else out to twist in the wind, and the result is a really sloppy sound.

I saw his wife Susan Tedeschi and she is just an awesome guitar player as well. I would like to them both at the same time that would be some kicking music. Pauly

Susan Tedeschi is great, too. Their kids are going to be scary-good musicians. Can you imagine having parents that can play like each of them????? Roger
