Hey Kids,
Does anyone out there in Ovationland know with what serial number did the 1537 Elites begin. I got a 301081. I'm thinking it could be one of the very first.

I was told by somebody at Ovation, about 11 years ago, that the 1537's started with 301007.

Thanks Paul.

I figured this was pretty early in the line, as it doesn't have a lock screw for the battery like my other 1537, which has a higher serial number...but is still fairly low.

I now have # 301004 compliments of a trade with W-2 and # 302433 through a trade with Jon.

To be blunt, mine is like number 1400 and something off the line and I couldn't care less if the number is not low. The guitar is great. It is my "forever" guitar. A part of me. Never to be replaced. Bury it with me (or me in it).

God, they are just such wonderful guitars. It's great that people here love them so much, but even if everybody here didn't like them mine would still be the guitar that I go to first.

Tony,
Does your 301004 have the battery lock screw at the waist?

If you haver 004the serial number must start there or lower.

Paul,
I agree with you about the 1537 quality...that's why I gots two...and as well a certain meaningless of the serial order...I suppose that I am just curious about the life of the guitar when it was born...Who owned before me yatta yatta....

Logic would say that they started at 301000, but .....

They burried Muddy Waters with his red Tele, nut it wouldn't fit in the casket. Eventually they pushed down the lid and broke the neck. That has got to suck, going through eternity with a broken guitar.

301347 ... yes on the battery lock screw.

When I go, hack off my leg to make sure the guitar fits. I can still play sitting down.

Anybody, besides Bill, get a 1537 when new? I've had mine since the summer of 93.

301075 sunburst. It's got no battery and as soon as I can find the right sized screwdriver it'll have no pre-amp either.

You know, for a guitar that I've had a long time, I may have the high serial number.

And again, how long have people owned their 1537's? Any since new?

Dave,

Understand the sunburst is fairly rare...any idea how many were made?

Why are you removing the pre-amp? Using the pre-amp on another guitar?

I've had one for two years and my other for a year. I bought the first from Elias the second at Jims music in Balitomre.

A few reasons:

I don't play out so no need for the pre-amp. If my agent ever gets his ass in gear and starts booking gigs I'll put the same direct out setup as my A2 slothead and FD-14.

One of our Japanese members offered me half of what I paid for the guitar just to sell him the pre-amp. Maybe that sorta helped me decide to remove it.

I know the experts don't agree with me and maybve it's just a psychological hangup, but I'm just not a big fan of keeping a small shoe box inside my guitar. And the 2-knob box weighs a ton.

About the sunburst, I've seen 3 (including mine). Not sure how many were made. I've seen one black one. I'd give my left boy for that one. There was a nutmeg one on guitartrader some time ago, but no photo.

How you gonna plug the holes? Two for the preamp, one for the battery, and two for the jacks.

There is no battery hole. The two pre-amp holes get covered by the knobs which are screwed on from inside the bowl. The two jack holes get filled with two new jacks, but no wiring.
