This one is really a Custom CL12, as this color was never offered with a Cherry-Cherryburst finish, and the 1658 was never offered with the OP24+ pre-amp. From what I've deduced from the Mothership, the serial number identifies it as a 1981, but Kim suspects the top was either replaced or refinished sometime in the 90's (as that's when CCB became available) and the preamp was likely upgraded at that time. It is "drop-dead" Gorgeous, dripping with abalone, from the headstock to the bridge-pins, and the rosette and purfling. It has an ivory bound neck that plays like, um, dairy-spread - and the intonation is spot on. The top is not only the most beautiful one I've ever owned (the pic's don't do it justice!), but it doesn't have the typical wave that's common to such a vintage 12er. The preamp is really a nice upgrade, and it plays out (and over the rest of the band) very nicely...You should see it under stagelights! The overall condition is probably a 9+ (I'd give it a 9.5 except for some dings on the top of the headstock) and there is very minimal wear to the cowboy frets. I'd like to keep it here in the OFC family, if possible, and am hoping to fetch $1,200 shipped (U.SofA.) and includes an SKB roundback hardshell case. Please shoot me an email if interested and I'd be happy to offer additional pic's and details. I'm only letting this one go in order to recover the NOS Peacher DeLuxe I pawned a few years back to another (very gracious!) OFC member! Thanks for looking! (I hope this isn't too much Guitar-Porn for those who are overly sensative to such things!) Edited by MisterGolf007 2012-03-22 8:43 PM

There's something kinda extra cool about playing a creation that you took the time & love to give birth to... And the DeLuxe Harem... My NOS is on the right! I chose the wood (not just the type but the actually boards), chose the neck size & style, designed the fretboard inlay, and the body style. It took 2 years but it was well worth the wait. I would LOVE to buy you 12-string but I don't have the money right now. Ovation 12-strings have a certain ring to them that no other 12-string has.....

Well...imagine a Sean Connery/James Bond thriller crossed with a steamy Salma Hayek romance, and you've got a pretty good idea... At the 12th fret, she's ~3/32" on the bass side and ~2/32" on the treble. Clean, up & down the neck - no buzz - except when you put your fingers in the wrong place! Thanks for looking (never mind the drool!)...

Just to add some fun please see photo of two Moscow 1759 twins (both were custom ordered, 1995, Optima): http://www.ovationfanclub.com/megabbs/photos/get-photo.asp?photoid=... Good luck with the sale! Alex.

Thanks y'all for the luv & kindness...Wish I could've kept this one - but then, wish I was a rich & famous rock-star too! p.s. glad to hear Tom Petty got his stolen guitars back, and they nailed the slimeball that kiped 'em!

As my understanding and experience (plus catalogs), dark sunburst and clear/natural were the only finish for production 1658's or 1158's.
