Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of selling my 1987 Custom Legend model 1719. The guitar's in great shape, no scratches etc.

I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what it's worth. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Search the archives here. Search Ebay, Craig's list, etc. You should be able to find some listings/sales of the 1719 or similar models…

It might depend on where in the galaxy you are located, too… ;-)

Posting details/photos/ and a price here (in the "For Sale" section) might find it a new home.

…or you can sell it to me for $100… ;-)

Welcome potthastd!

As the opening comments to this site state "Ovations don't get the respect they deserve". We understand the value and worth but it can be hard to swallow the market price.

One of the better tools is to place it on Ebay as best represented as possible, start the bidding at $1 but place the reserve where you are comfortable. The highest bid will tell you what the market value is.

The Blue Book of Acoustic Guitars lists value as excellent condition $700 - 825 and average condition $450 - 525.

Vintage Guitar Price Guide lists value as excellent condition $650 - 800.

However, YMMV depending on market, location and condition.

Blue books rarely indicate the actual market value at the time for a given model. Like Mike said, Ebay is probably one of the best indicators. I've listed guitars for a week on Ebay at a certain price that didn't sell, then re list the same one and it sells immediately. Whatever you can get for it is market value at the time. Start high.

$650-$850. The market for Ovations is not real strong right now. In a good market, $1000-$1200. And it's a better guitar than that price indicates. If you don't have to sell it right now then don't......

Folks, I just had to write to say I'm impressed with this thread! As a new member, I've been frustrated by threads started by members searching for help in valuing instruments and equipment or wondering if repairs are really worth the cost involved. So many times the response is, "Just decide what it is worth to you..." which is very zen but is actually no help at all. This group has so much knowledge and it was refreshing to see members sharing that knowledge in a, "If this was mine, I would..." way. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Thanks again guys for all the input. I think I'm gonna go ahead and put it in the For Sale section.. I hate to sell it but I need the money at the moment.

I'd rather sell it here and keep it in the Ovation family than sell it to somebody on the bay that doesn't know what they're bidding on.

Thanks again.

As an evilBay participant I will mention something that I have noticed...
With today's economy there are alot of Awesome (and scary) deals out there. But there are also Ovations that are listed and selling at their True Value.
Just because there are many desperate people selling their beautiful guitars at bargain prices...
This does not mean that you cannot sell your guitar for a reasonable amount.
Pick your price and put it up for what it's worth... (costs 35 cents for BIN with BO with Auctiva )
Either you will get it or you won't.

Now that he has decided to sell it, let's see if everyone who claimed its worth in the $650 and up range jump in on the action and buy it.

I'm betting none.

Post it up in the $300-400 range and see how many of the bottom feeders surface.

I am not saying the guitar is not "truly" worth the $650-1200 range.....just pointing out that if you "need" to sell it now your prospects of getting true worth are highly diminished.

I hope he gets 1500 for it.

(excuse me now as I think I hear the price police ringing my doorbell!)

I was asked my opinion on the monetary value of the guitar, not whether I wanted to buy it. I gave an honest opinion.

Take a hike.
