| I am going to sell my Ovation Elite 1537 serial number 302467 which probably places it as a 1983 vintage. This guitar is special – the sound and the feel are exceptional. I would rate this guitar at a 9.5 on a scale to 10. Check out my pictures to see what I am talking about. There is no cracking of any sort. The neck and string alignment are great – I had it professionally adjusted this year. There are two minor flaws. There is a scratch less than a quarter inch long in the finish in the upper right side near the sound holes. This might be repairable with really fine sandpaper but I am unwilling to try it. The second flaw is very difficult to see and I could probably camouflage it by putting some oil on it, but again I want to really show any and every flaw that exists. The second flaw is where some compression has occurred on the lower bottom of the banding where the wood meets the bowl. There is a three inch area where compression can be felt if you run you hand over that area. In that three inch area you can only see a flaw from the front in one spot. From the side view you see some impressions that look worse in pictures than they really are in person. Again from the side I could cover that up with some oil, but I have not done that. The electronics are flawless and like my guitar repair specialist says “you can plug that guitar into any PA system and it will sound great”. I am considering an asking price of $2.000.00. I may be nuts, but this is a highly desirable vintage product that is in great shape. When I asked Ovation on their opinion on a neck repair I had done I was advised to make sure the repair person was aware that the 1537 was “hard to find and collectible”. Please check out the pictures and email me if you have any questions. The sales price included an Ovation case that that is 8 out of 10 in condition. The case has one gouge in it and the black tape is missing on the under side, Some of the ovation lettering back coloring has faded. See a picture for details. The purchaser would pay shipping to their location as you deem fit. I will ship in ovation case plus whatever packaging you designate that is available with UPS.

It looks to be a standard neck vs. wide but what is the width at the Nut?

In my later years I'll probably end up with a semi-colon.

| Hey! Thanks for the support. MWoody added a link to all my pics and Weaser P added a couple of photos. The width at the neck is 1 11/16 inches (not to be confused with the metric scale).
I want an Ovation to replace my Elite, but I want something I don't have to be concerned with keeping in pristine condition. I want to take it to the lake or anywhere without fear of destroying. What is your opinion of the Celebrity line? I know they aren't USA made. I'm looking at the CC28 line. I wonder how in tune they stay and how they stand up to humid conditions around water or a night around a fire. |

Seriously, you're trading a 1537 for a Celeb? Ok, I'm no expert nor am I the price police but let me give you a totally unasked for opinion - the 1537, even if pristine, in this market, is prolly going to get you around $850 - $1,100 depending on who wants what. That's not to say it's not worth more than that - in my mind, it's worth WAY more than that but you're not going to get it in this group. It sounds to me like you're trying to get two G's for a git, then spend $200 for a beater. That's fair - I think most players here have their top shelf and their beaters but you should do some research first.

Location: big island | i haven't seen a 1537 sell for more than $950.00 in the last year. doesn't mean it hasn't happened. i sold one several months ago for $800 and have seen them go for as little as $450 in excellent condition recently. |

One sold on eBay recently for not much more than $600, and I just snagged one for $750. There are a couple for sale at a Japanese retailer for about $1600 USD, but I emailed and they wouldn't ship internationally in any case.

Location: Munich, Germany | Or try to swap it for an Adamas CVT. They're nearly indestructible, stay in tune in any weather conditions. Don't sound as good as the textured tops, but should be in the same price range as your 1537. Today.
