I was looking at some web sites and see on Ovations that the top for the Celebrity Deluxe is spruce or quilted maple, how will I be able to tell? on the web sites that sell guitars usually just state it is spruce (green quilted finish).

I sent this question (e-mail) as well as a question about the neck. looks like a one piece neck (nato?). I also requested a current Ovation catalog, is Ovation good about getting back to people via e-mail?

LOL!

I e-mailed my plumber telling him that my main line had burst, I have raw sewage up to my neck, and my son is being sucked down the septic drain as I write!

He courteously replied;

Thank you for calling Bill's plumbing. I am sorry to hear you are having plumbing difficulties at this time. I want you to know that your buisness is very important to us here at Bill's. If the fish aint bitin, there's no good baseball games on T.V., and it's not a bingo or lodge meeting night, I will consider responding to your e-mail as soon as .... convienient.

Thanks again for for your buisness! And remember, "When the sh*t hits the floor, Bill's out the door!".

I'm actually in the market for a digital camera so Cliff's info on Kodak is good to know. However, when the shit comes back at me, I won't be calling Bill's.

Cliff,
That's the way it's supposed to be, nice when it happens.
There was a septic company in Winsted (near New Hartford) and I've been told that he used to park his pumper trucks down behind the factory. On the side of the trucks was "Your shit is my bread and butter"
All depends on your point of view I guess...

Our local septic tank outfit has "IF YOU CAN POOP IT WE CAN PUMP IT!" painted on the trucks tank.

Reply with an address and a catalogue will be forthcoming"

aah, with all this discussion about septic tanks and overflowing s**t and digital cameras and unworthy customer service departments, aren't we getting a little off topic? This is the Ovation Guitars Fan Club. Or is this considered lagniappe (a Louisiana term for "a little something extra")?

Mr. Ringo the Star -- yes, Ovation is pretty good about sending catalogs and brief responses to your questions. I think it's an incentive for you to go to your local authorized dealer and check out the inventory and the dealer is supposed to be able to help you get answers from Ovation headquarters. The dealer also can work with Ovation on special orders. You should get the catalog within a week of your request.

Tommy, the areas of discussion here swing far and wide. Don't worry. It always comes back to Ovations.

Lasagnapipe??

Is that with or without meat and bleu cheese?

I see you missed the discussion about tamalebursts.

This looks like 4 days to get an email responce. Let us know when the catalogues come. Be interesting to see that time frame

Bill,

Obviously you have never been to Louisiana. Don't worry, we are very friendly people, we bite only when attacked or provoked.

The term "lagniappe" has nothing to do with lasagna. "Lagniappe" simply means "a little something more or extra for your enjoyment." It can refer to food in a general sense, such as we have it in Louisiana. Crawfish pie, filet gumbo, jambalaya, fried catfish, muffaletta, oysters, shrimp, poboys, seafood and okra gumbo.

Hell...anybody that wants to come down here (I'm in Baton Rouge, can get to New Orleans real easy) can just call me and I'll be happy to show you around and recommend excellent places for food to fit your budget and your stomach. Now, that's lagniappe, Bill!

Public service is my motto and desire! And I'm still searching for that elusive Glen Campbell six-string balladeer, acoustic or acoustic-electric.

Love this bulletin board!

Tommy

I spent 2 months in Louisiana in 1955, I convoyed there in 2 or 3 hundred duece-and-a-halfs from Fort Eustis, VA for a war game that covered half of the state. We stopped on the way down in New Orleans long enough for us to see the city that never closes for the night. Then we bivouaced in little towns like DeQuincy, Arcadia etc, as we travelled up and down the state in a simulated war. I drank gallons of Lousiana chicory coffee in the little coffee shops in the dry parishes, and almost learned to like it. We would take our supply trucks to a supply dump in a wet parish, and return with everybody's order of something stronger than coffee. While we were there it snowed for the first time in 20 years, (dogfaces get all the luck, we were sleeping in pup tents). Now, as to music, there were some of the best jazz music in those wet parish bars that I have ever seen. Sax players walking on the tables, crowds into the music like tomorrow never comes. Party time in Louisiana was awesome and I'll never forget it. If a tenth of it is left, it is worth going to see. It was the most unique experience and I loved it. There were no Ovations then but I'm sure they are part of the modern scene in LA.

Bailey

Tommy;
It is very bizarre to see "lagniappe" bantered about in this forum, as it's a term that's been used here at work for years. Though I've never been to Louisiana (yet!), I have a lot of transplanted "coon ass" friends here at work that've been quite dear to me, and I think I've absorbed it through osmosis. There's been many times taking the ferry back from a night out in Manhattan that I just HAD to stop at one of my absolute favorite restaurants (Oddfellow's Rest in Hoboken, NJ) for a catfish poboy and a Dixie Blackened Voodoo. I also have a kitchen cabinet that's stocked with Zap's potato chip (via UPS).

Good Stuff!!!

"Naw'lins" is at the top of my list of vacation locales (along with St. Barts, London, and Russ' Puerto Viagra) and when I DO come down (probably next JazzFest, I'll look you up.

Hi, Bailey and Cliff:

Bailey -- what are you waiting for? Things in Louisiana are still pretty much the same, the party is still going on! Your time in Louisiana (mid 50s) was before I was even conceived in my mother's womb! Great to hear you had a great time. Chicory coffee is STILL made here!

Cliff -- anytime you're ready to return to New Orleans, just let me know. We certainly can do Jazz Fest (late April/early May). Although I live and work in Baton Rouge, New Orleans consumes a good part of my life in this great state. Do look me up and we'll share our love of things Ovation and good old Louisiana lagniappe! And those Zapp's chips are friggin' fabulous! By the authority vested in me by the State of Louisiana, I now declare you to be, now and henceforth, an honorary citizen of the State of Louisiana, and to possess all of the rights and privileges bestowed upon every true Louisianian! (Now if I can get this attested to by the Secretary of State of Louisiana, this would be a true certificate!)

Thanks Tommy, nice invitation

I forgot to mention that I am a Louisiana land owner. I bought a square foot of DeRidder or some such thing at a DeRidder high school fund raiser, and recieved a nice deed but I haven't seen it in years. Aside from bluegrass, I,ve always had a liking for cajun music, haven't heard much lately. I think Doug Kershaw is too old, and few would remember Rusty and Doug. One of the things that modern homogeinization has done is wipe out regional differences, I am glad to hear they still serve chicory coffee but I bet it's not at McDonald's. One of the guys in our basic training was a true cajun from the bayous, and we couldn't understand a word he said. Loved Louisiana, and probably still would. It was a different world then, and sounds like it still is.
This technology lets us all travel, without leaving our house, isn't it great? Party on!

Bailey...

Chicory coffee can be bought (in ground form) in the grocery stores here. I'm sure there are various coffee places in New Orleans where it can be bought and consumed on the premises.

Yes, the party is still going on and seems will never end!
