Location: Fort worth Texas | Can you put strap locks on the ovation guitars?
I mostly will be playing my Ovation standing up, do they slide around alot and if so what can be done to reduce this? I would like to say I love this site and have got some really good feedback info. Thanx to all that have responded to my posts andgiven information. |

Ovation use Dunlop strap-loks on most of the current USA guitars. The bolt-heads used on the older standard strap-buttons are too big for the Dunlops but can be filed down easily. |

Location: SoCal | Does the Dunlop come in gold instead of just nickle and black? Couldn't find on a Google search.
I have the base from what appears to be Dunlop which were on the #6759 and the base is gold...can you buy just the top pin (strap end) like you can with the Schaller? I put Schaller on the #6759 but could use the Dunlop base on another guitar if I can find the head.
Just a thought as I replaced the Schaller top pins on a guitar for about $6.00 which was far cheaper than the set. |

or they have the newer dual design in 4 colors that it looks like you can use a regular strap if needed.

Location: Netherlands | A cheap and very effective alternative are the rubber washers from the dutch Grolsch beer 0.45l bottles they sell overhere. Don't know if they have them in the US.
The red washer in the picture on
Grolsch Beer
is an important part of all my guitars.
3rd bottle from the left. Unfortunately they are only available in red.

Location: Madison, Wisconsin | Dunlop's work great but two things to keep in mind. 1)My guitar doesn't fit in the case very well with the strap left on and 2) I had to wedge a small piece of leather thong in between the washer and the strap to keep it from vibrating. (Drove me crazy for a while untill I figured out where the noise was comming from) |

If you have StrapLocks which are designed for easy romoval of the strap, why would you leave the strap on in the case? Sounds like a great way to ruin a top or a neck. Straps go in gig bags, or in the pick compartment if they fit. JMHO |

Location: Madison, Wisconsin | I use the strap locks to keep the strap "locked" to the guitar. I have had regular straps get turned around and slip off the knob. Not much room in the pick compartment but the space left by the cutaway provides a good place to store the strap and a rag. |

Location: On the beach in Southwest Florida | The real reason for my wanting strap locks is so that I can easily remove the strap when I put it in the case. Otherwise I leave the strap on the guitar. |

Miles, I'm more curious about the 2nd part of the thread to which you are responding...the real question is...if one has a leather thong, why would you cut it up to fix a guitar strap lock?

3 : a garment consisting of a narrow strip of fabric fitting between the legs and a waistband that is worn as underwear or the bottom piece of a bikini
