I've got a good friend who has an early 80's Custom Legend 12 string. Acoustically (which is what we're really talking about here as the type of preamps make a big difference when plugging in), the Adamas 12 (Big Blue) has it over ever 12 string I've ever played, for ease of playing and sound. I recognize that everybody has a different ear when it comes to these things, but that's mine. Now, when it comes to the current Adamas 12 strings, which, being the snob I am, I don't consider as Adamas guitars, I have no opinion. I've played a few 6 strings, but no 12's. The 6's are nice, but I wouldn't give up my 1537 Elite for one. If I really wanted an Adamas 6 string, in a newer configuration, I'd go to Al and buy one of the woven top models that he has that were made for the export market. Truly superior guitars. Tony, we should get together sometime. I'll bring down Big Blue, my 1537, and my Deluxe Balladeer. You'd enjoy playing them. Plus, you have a number of guitars on which I would enjoy trying out my 3 chords.

If I had been in the market for a 12, I would have bought it right there. It would have been a perfect match for my 1537. Oddly, at the same time, there was a 1548(?). It was a 6 string Elite with a cutaway. Wood binding, walnut fingerboard, just like my 1537 but with the cutaway. Everytime I go into a good guitar store, I think "So many guitars, so little money, and even less talent". Damn.

Knew you'd be the sadistic one to offer to let me try but not keep. See my posting on OFC guitar for my wish list. Should wait until I get my 1687 Adamas I from Kim, Dave's GC Balladeer, and a 1669 that I put a minimum bid of $305 and forgot I had even bid on...on the Adamas, Kim and crew are resetting the neck, fret dress, setup, couple of finish chips, and giving it TLC - couple of weeks. Whatever he thinks needs to be done. Except for his offer of Sears latex Green Goblin paint. Would offer to come up there but the parlor is the only one that would fit inside the Mustang. Or, could put one on on the passenger seat, three in back with the tops extending outside of the body line. I can see it now, pulled over at the San Onofre checkpoint to see what I am really carrying inside the cases. Couple of Iowa Meat steaks and Alaskan King Crab - could be a good time. Vegetarian? - you could have some of Suzie's tofue or her soy corn dogs.

Oddly, I don't care for the old 6 string Adamas as much. The 12 on the other hand just knocks my socks off. But there are plenty of people here to disagree with me.

I could never decide which I like better, they are just 2 different animals. I love them both. At first, the smt seemed a liitle too bright for my taste (I like heavy, thumpy bottom end) and have been using it as my backup at gigs. Everytime I think about selling it (simply because I haven't used it much), I fall in love with it again. It does have an incredibly vibrant sound. The custom legend I fell in love with the moment I played it. It had the depth I was looking for. Right now I'm looking to sell both because there is another adamas 12 string I have my heart set on. -Johnny

That small State out East | I go along with Paul that his "Big Blue" a younger brother of the 1979 Adamas 1 (1688-8)that hangs on the wall is the best sounding/playing 12 the Mother ship has put out. It get's you to smile when you strum it once. The marketing BS that it is like lifting the lid on the piano... That's real. I believe it is in the top. Woz

Joined: August 2002 Posts: 623 Location: Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey | Paul, I've been anticipating the new Melissa Etheridge II Adamas 12 string since the first tour, when I learned of the planned to update it-preamp and such. I finally got to actually try one, and it was incredible. Still, essentially an SMT, but with new bracing, one epulette, OP pro preamp, black burst, ebony board, lighter bowl..played incredible. One solid guitar and more bottom end than the smt I have. I haven't seen them advertised or on the adamas website, but I just saw one on ebay, so I suppose they will start to become more evident. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33029&item=3725232250&rd=1 I was very skeptical of how the new one would sound, since I don't like the original ME version AT ALL. That one is very lifeless to me. This one was very meaty in feel and sound. I intend to purchase mine from Al, especially since I've been haunting him for over a year about this guitar for any snippet of news. Just collecting my funds to make it happen. I'm sure that there are other Adamas guitars that may be considered more desirable to fans/collectors. I am looking for a specific sound that this guitar delivers, and it's somewhat in my price consideration (as compared to $2,000+). -Johnny

Read Al and Adamas72 discuss the advent of the single epaulet - booming! OP PRo is a very nice preamp. I'm sure there may be something cooler in the years to come since modeling amps and software are all the rage now. Paul - I just lift heavy things for a living but I concieve that a GS deep bowl, ANS neck, textured carbon Top, Single Epaulet Slothead 12 would give "Blue" a run for the money. I also predict it won't be makeable until we have 3500 Members. In the mean time it is my civic duty to help John reach his goals as best I can! :D

I'm sure Al could find out, but I've haunted that guy enough. I won't ask any more questions til I have the money to put in his hands. -Johnny
